DescriptionThe whole story

Titanium grey with camel trim is the quietest Sunny and the one that looks most like a considered object rather than a helmet. Grey and tan is the least demanding colour pairing on this shelf.

What an open-face helmet does and does not do

If you have only worn full-face helmets, the first ride in a jet is a genuine surprise — the periphery opens up, the sound changes, and the helmet stops feeling like something you are inside.

🔵 The second thing to understand is what it costs: no chin bar, no jaw protection, and a certification category that does not include either.

About the Sunny Titanium Camel finish

Grey does the same job here that it does everywhere else on a helmet — it sits at the value where city road film and dust show least, and it is meaningfully more visible in flat light than black — but the camel trim is what stops it reading as anonymous. That combination suits a helmet worn daily with ordinary clothing rather than with a riding suit, which is what most Y.10 owners are actually doing. 🔵 The trim is the part that shows wear first on any Sunny version. If the helmet is a daily commuter, expect the camel to darken with skin contact within a season or two.

Polyfusion, two shells and three approvals

🔵 No independent safety rating exists for this helmet. SHARP has no entry for the Y.10. The five-star „Nexx Y100" in that database is a different model — and a full-face rather than a jet. There is no ADAC or Snell result either.

What the Y.10 does hold: ECE 22-06, DOT FMVSS 218 and NBR7471:2015 — pass-or-fail certifications rather than comparative ratings.

The sun visor, the peak — and the clear visor that is not there

The peak is supplied with the helmet, and on a jet it does real work: it shades low sun from above, which is the case a tinted shield handles least well, and it keeps light rain off your forehead at city speeds.

🔵 It also catches air. Above about 80 km/h a peaked jet pulls noticeably at the head.

Airflow on an open-face

🔵 Riders coming from a full-face notice two things immediately on a jet: how much cooler it is, and how much more they can hear. Both come from the same source, and neither is a ventilation feature.

The Y.10's own airflow system works on the crown; a two-stage top vent is fitted to some versions of the range.

Interior, glasses and the buckle

A quick-release micrometric buckle matters more on a jet than on a full-face, simply because you use it more — a helmet taken on and off at every stop is a helmet whose fastening you operate ten times a day.

🔵 Nexx's is a one-handed ratchet with fine adjustment. The liner behind it comes out entirely for washing.

Intercom — and the 45 mm limit

🔵 The most common intercom complaint on any helmet is speakers pressing on the ears over a long ride, and it is almost always a depth problem rather than a helmet problem. Measure yours before assuming they will fit.

The Y.10 takes audio sets up to 45 mm in universal recesses.

1325 grams, and the rest of the honest list

City speeds, short journeys, scooters and small motorcycles — that is what this helmet is for, and it is very good at it. At 1325 g it is the lightest thing in Nexx's range by a clear margin.

🔵 Outside that context it is the wrong tool: loud, cold, and unprotected at the chin.

Choosing the right size

The strap does not correct a size problem. A micrometric buckle pulled tight on an oversized helmet still leaves a helmet that rotates — the fit comes from the shell and the padding, and the strap only stops it coming off.

🔵 Measure first, try on second, and take the size that does not move.

When something wears out

An urban helmet gets a harder cosmetic life than a touring one — carried, set down, packed into panniers, wiped with whatever is to hand. Most of what that damages is replaceable: the peak, the shield and the interior.

🔵 The shell is not, and neither is the EPS beneath it.

Where it sits in Nexx's range

🔵 A jet and a full-face are not competitors, they are different tools, and most riders who own both use each for different journeys. If you are choosing only one and your riding is mixed, the full-face is the safer choice.

If it is genuinely all city, the Y.10 is the helmet that gets worn.

“A clean, understated jet with a proper drop-down sun visor and a wide adjustable shield, at 1,225 g. It has less presence than the Shoei J.O2 but costs a third as much and is easier to live with day to day.”
