DescriptionThe whole story▼
Groovy is the X.G30's trimmed line, and white with camel is its most period-correct combination — warm tan edging against a pale shell is what open-face helmets looked like before black plastic trim became standard.
A Sixties silhouette on a 2026 shell
Retro helmets fail in one of two ways: they look right and are built to an old standard, or they are built properly and look like a modern helmet wearing a costume. The X.G30 avoids both — the silhouette is genuinely period and the shell is genuinely current.
🔵 ECE 22-06, DOT FMVSS 218, CCC GB811:2022 and NBR7471:2015, on a six-layer composite shell made in Portugal.
About the Groovy White Camel finish
Trim matters more on a jet than on any other helmet type, because the face opening is enormous and the edging runs all the way around it in full view. Camel against white is a two-material contrast rather than a two-colour one, and it is what separates the Groovy line from the cheaper Purist. The practical case runs alongside: white is the easiest shell here for a driver to resolve in flat urban light, and it stays cooler in summer sun than any dark finish. 🔵 Both the shell and the trim show dirt sooner than a darker combination, and the camel is the part that will show wear first.
Six layers, three shells
Six layers is the specification that separates X-Matrix2 from ordinary fibreglass. Nexx's stated aim is optimised impact and penetration performance against conventional fibres — a stiffer, stronger shell for the same or less weight.
🔵 That is a manufacturer's description. The verifiable part is the approval: ECE 22-06, DOT, CCC and NBR.
What an open-face helmet does and does not do
🔵 A retro helmet raises this question more sharply than most, because the styling is the reason people buy it. The shape is from an era before chin bars were standard, and the protection follows the shape: there is none over the jaw.
Everything the ECE 22-06 jet category does cover, this helmet meets in full.
The dark sun visor — and the clear one that is not there
🔵 Read the box contents before buying: helmet, dark sun visor and one peak. There is no clear visor. The only screen fitted is dark-tinted, and a dark tint is a daylight item — not road-legal at night or in poor visibility in most European countries.
An external clear visor is available separately, and for year-round use it is close to essential.
| External visor | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Clear | year-round use, night and rain — 🔴 not supplied with the helmet |
| 60 % tint | bright days without committing to full darkness |
| 80 % tint | strong summer sun — daylight only |
| Iridium red / green | mirrored, cuts glare — daylight only |
| Yellow HD | lifts contrast in flat, overcast and dusk light |
Interior, X-Mart Dry and the Ergo Padding System
🔵 Drying speed matters more on a jet than on a full-face, because the interior is used harder — on and off several times a journey, exposed to more dust, and often needed again the next morning. A liner that dries overnight is worth more than one that feels marginally softer.
X-Mart Dry is specified for exactly that, and it is anti-allergic and sweat-wicking.
The double-D ring
🔵 If you have not used a double-D ring before, practise it once at home rather than for the first time in a car park. Thread, pull, fold the loose end away. Ten seconds, and identical tension every time.
A strap that is even slightly loose is a strap that lets the helmet move — and on a jet there is no chin bar to hold it in place.
1320 grams, and the rest of the honest list
🔵 If you ride with an intercom, this is the wrong helmet and it is better to know now. The X.G30 has no communication provision at all — no recesses, no routing, no designed-in system. Anything you fit will sit on the padding.
Nexx's Y.10 jet takes universal audio sets up to 45 mm; this one is not built for them.
Where it sits in Nexx's range
🔵 Against Nexx's own Y.10 jet the choice comes down to construction and comms. The Y.10 is thermoplastic, has two shell sizes and takes universal audio sets up to 45 mm. The X.G30 is composite, has three shell sizes and has no comms provision at all.
If you ride with an intercom, that decides it.
Accessories and spare parts
🔵 Six external visor finishes is more choice than most full-face helmets offer. Clear for year-round use, 60 % and 80 % tints for summer, iridium red and green for looks and glare, and a yellow HD that lifts contrast in flat and dusk light rather than darkening anything.
All of them mount to the same fittings, and none is supplied with the helmet.
