A four-star shell in six sizes

ECE 22.06 is the current European schedule, mandatory for new helmets sold in the EU since January 2024. It tests more impact points than 22.05, adds a second lower speed, and introduced an oblique test measuring rotational acceleration.

Two independent results — including the criticisms

🟢 Four stars at 220 € is the unusual part. Independent ratings cluster at the premium end of the market because that is where manufacturers spend; a composite helmet at this price reaching 4 of 5 is not the normal shape of the results table.

🔵 It is not a five-star helmet, and we are not going to describe it as one.

Airflow that reaches your head

The vent covers are inside the ECE 22.06 approval, because the current standard tests a helmet with everything fitted that will be sold on it. They open and close by hand and work in gloves.

🔵 Beyond the layout, no airflow figure has been published by anyone independent.

About the Splitter matt titanium and red graphic

Titanium is the value at which road film, dried rain and motorway deposit all show least, so most of the shell stays looking maintained without any particular effort. Red supplies contrast against it and, more usefully, against the surroundings — it separates cleanly from both grey tarmac and green hedgerow, which is most of what anyone actually rides past. Between them you get a helmet meaningfully more visible than a dark one and meaningfully easier to keep than a pale one. The matt finish adds a third property: no clear coat for handling marks to catch in, on a compact helmet that gets carried and set down constantly. 🔵 One thing specific to red: it is the most UV-sensitive pigment used on helmets, because the organic pigments that give it saturation break down faster than the inorganic ones behind grey and blue. Store it out of prolonged direct sun and it will hold its colour for the life of the helmet. Of the three Splitter versions this is the one we would default to for a rider covering serious mileage: it stays looking clean, it is clearly more visible than any of the dark finishes, and it avoids both the washing of a white helmet and the loudness of a fluorescent one. The hi-vis version goes further on visibility if that is the deciding factor.

Two visors in the box, a third inside the shell

An anti-fog insert works mechanically: it sits slightly proud of the visor with a sealed pocket of air between the two, holding the inner surface above dew point.

🔵 Sprays and coatings need reapplying and fail exactly when humidity is highest. The Pinlock 120 is supplied here.

Holding on, and letting go

Multi-density EPS is a large part of what earned the four stars: firmer material where an impact must be slowed hard, softer where energy should be absorbed progressively.

🔵 It works once. After any real impact the helmet is finished, whatever the composite shell looks like from outside.

The part you actually touch

🔵 A new helmet should feel firm everywhere and painful nowhere. Padding compresses over the first hours and again across the first season, so the size that feels right in the shop is often one too large by the following summer.

On a six-shell helmet you have more chance of landing on exactly the right size than on almost anything else at the price.

Where it sits in LS2's range

Thirteen finishes, two prices. Solid White, Nardo Grey, Concrete Matt and Matt Black at 220 €; the nine graphics at 237 €.

🔵 Nothing else changes. The cheapest Vector II is exactly the helmet SHARP crashed and Certimoov assessed.

Care and replacement parts

Helmets are consumables with a long life. LS2, like every manufacturer, advises replacement after roughly five years regardless of appearance — adhesives, foam and resin all change with time and ultraviolet.

🔵 The check that settles it: with the strap fastened, try to rotate the helmet on your head, then try to roll it forward off you. Neither should be possible.
