DescriptionThe whole story▼
Grey and red is the most conventional Quanta and the one that reads most clearly as a sport-touring helmet rather than as a design object. It is also the best of the graphics at hiding a long motorway day.
Two independent tests — and where they disagree
Comfort scored 4/5 in the scored test and „remarkably comfortable out of the box" in the second — the one point both reviewers agreed on without reservation. Fit was found true to size in both, for an intermediate oval head shape.
🔵 Where they parted company was noise and heat, and both of those are covered honestly further down this page.
About the Quanta Black Red graphic
Red against a dark grey ground is the pairing that survives dirt best in this range: insect strike and road film read as a haze on pale grounds and largely disappear on dark ones, so this version still looks presentable after a week of distance. Red is also a high-saturation colour that holds up well against grey tarmac, which puts it among the more conspicuous options here without going fluorescent. 🔵 Red pigment fades faster than most under sustained ultraviolet — a helmet left strapped to a bike through a summer will lose depth. Keep it in a bag when parked.
The X-Matrix2 shell
🔵 The decision that splits this range is the shell. This is the X-Matrix2 version: multiaxial fibreglass multi-composite, 1750 g ±50, and noticeably cheaper than the carbon equivalent.
Everything else — X-Block N'Seal visor, Anti-Vibration EPS, sun visor, F.R.S., spoiler, X-COM3 provision — is identical between the two.
| Shell | Construction | Weight (Nexx) | Decors |
|---|---|---|---|
| X-Matrix2 | multiaxial fibreglass multi-composite | 1750 g ±50 | Plain, Quanta |
| X-PRO Carbon | carbon fibre | 1625 g | Rush, Zero Pro, Atlantic |
X-Block N'Seal — a visor that locks
The panoramic aperture is what you notice first from inside. A wider view opening gives more peripheral vision at junctions and less of a letterbox feel over hours — and on a touring helmet, hours is the operative word.
🔵 The visor locks closed via X-Block N'Seal and carries a fitted Pinlock 120 XLT MaxVision anti-fog lens.
The ultra-wide sun visor
🔵 With the shield down and the outer visor closed you are looking through two surfaces, and any scratch or fog on either becomes visible. Keep both clean, and never wipe either dry.
The sun visor is ultra-wide and reaches to just above the bridge of the nose.
Anti-Vibration EPS — two shells and a rubber layer
🔵 Be precise about the claim. A rubber layer between inner and outer EPS allows micro-movements that reduce the helmet vibration caused by air turbulence. That is a stability and comfort claim, not a protection one.
The impact work is done by the EPS itself and by the shell above it.
Two intakes, two chambers — and a 5/5 measurement
The Air Cumbs chamber sits between the EPS and the crown padding, holding a gap so incoming air has somewhere to travel rather than being absorbed immediately by the lining. It works in series with the Mid Airflow Chamber rather than duplicating it.
🔵 Two separate internal air chambers is unusual, and the measured 5/5 result suggests they earn their complexity.
Chin curtain, neck roll and how quiet it is
The X-Block N'Seal locking visor contributes here as well as in the rain. A visor held positively closed leaks less air at the edge than one held by detent friction, and edge leakage is the highest-frequency component of helmet noise.
🔵 The measured overall figure was 103 dB at 130 km/h; a second reviewer called the result minimal.
Interior, retention and fit
The removable breath guard is worth fitting even if you take it out in summer. It redirects exhaled air downwards rather than up the inside of the visor, which is what stops the visor misting at a standstill — and it blocks a noise path from under the chin bar.
🔵 The large chin curtain does the same job on a larger scale.
1750 grams, and the rest of the honest list
The full honest list: 1750 g ±50 claimed and never independently weighed, no SHARP rating, measured noise of 103 dB, and heat retention at low speed noted by one reviewer.
Against that: a measured 5/5 ventilation result, comfort 4/5, four market approvals, two visors and a fitted Pinlock 120 XLT lens.
Comms, camera and spare parts
The side camera mount is built into the shell rather than sold as an adhesive kit, which on a helmet with a genuinely aerodynamic profile matters — a stick-on mount in the wrong place undoes the work the spoiler is doing.
🔵 The camera itself is not supplied.
