DescriptionThe whole story▼

Marcos Uriarte moved through the European Talent Cup at fourteen, podiumed in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup at Aragon and finished tenth overall there, took a CEV Moto3 podium, stood in for the Snipers team at the 2022 Catalan Grand Prix, and finished fifth in the 2024 Junior World Championship before securing a Moto3 ride with Michael Laverty's MLav Racing team for 2025. His colours — black, blue and yellow — carry onto this Skwal Cup decor.

City calm, motorway proof

At town speeds the Skwal Cup's rear spoiler does very little — there isn't enough airflow to manage. Its job starts once speed climbs into motorway territory, or the moment a naked bike puts a rider's head fully into the airstream: that's when a plain shell starts to buffet as air separates off the back, and when this shell's spoiler, shaped via computational fluid-dynamics modelling and proven in a wind tunnel, keeps things settled instead.

The Uriarte finish, in use

Black as the dominant colour keeps the helmet looking sharp between washes, with blue and yellow doing the work of standing out rather than the base colour itself — a practical split for a helmet that's going to see daily traffic rather than a paddock. It's built to carry a young rider's early-career colours without looking like a costume once the racing context is stripped away.

What "2206" on the label means

The number stamped on this helmet's homologation label, 2206, refers to ECE 22.06 — mandatory for newly homologated EU helmets since January 2024. Compared with the 22.05 standard it replaced, testing expanded from five impact points to eighteen, from one impact speed to several, and added an oblique-impact test against an abrasive anvil to reproduce a glancing fall rather than a straight drop. A rotational Brain Injury Criterion is scored for the first time, and the rig tests the helmet with its visor, Pinlock insert and a comms unit fitted. No FIM suffix follows the number here: this is road certification.

Air path

Front intake in, two rear exhausts out — a compact circuit rather than an elaborate one.

What the tolerance figure is telling you

Shark's 1,580 g weight figure for the Skwal Cup carries a stated tolerance of +/-50 g, and it's quoted on the first, smallest shell size — a rider in L to XXL, on the larger of the two shells, should expect the real figure to run above rather than below that number for the same construction. It's worth taking seriously precisely because the neck carries that mass for the whole ride rather than just at the point of putting the helmet on. Most road-legal full-face helmets in our own range sit between roughly 1,250 g and 1,800 g; this one is close to the midpoint.

Visor specification

Optical class 1, Pinlock 70 insert included, tool-free release. No photochromic option — the Skwal Cup doesn't appear on Shark's IRID visor compatibility list.

Comfort liner

Alveotech material, antibacterial and suede-finish, removable and machine washable — meant to be actually washed on a regular basis rather than left to build up odour over a season.

Sizing, kept proportional

Two shell sizes support the XS-to-XXL run rather than one shell padded out at both extremes — the usual compromise a single-shell helmet makes.

Same shell, different electronics

This decor sits in the same bracket as the Skwal i3 and the Skwal i Cup — the practical difference being the LED brake-light system those two carry and the Skwal Cup doesn't. Below all three sit the D-Skwal 3 and, at the entry point, the Ridill 2.

Direct from the manufacturer

Rather than relying on third-party fits, a Skwal Cup visor can be ordered directly from Shark's own spare-parts collection, which lists it alongside the Ridill 2, D-Skwal 3 and Skwal i3 — the four road lines sharing compatible visor stock.

Set expectations, then decide

No LED brake light on this helmet — the Skwal i3 and Skwal i Cup have that. No SHARP star rating for the Skwal Cup — SHARP has rated the Skwal, Skwal 2 and D-Skwal instead. ECE 22.06 only for homologation, no FIM suffix. No MIPS liner fitted, no electronic quick-release system, no tear-off posts on the visor. All worth knowing before the order goes in, not after.

In the box

Helmet plus fitted Pinlock 70 insert plus warranty paperwork — five years of cover, starting from the purchase date.

A career still being built

Uriarte's results read like a rider still climbing rather than one who has arrived: an Aragon podium and 10th overall in his first full Rookies Cup season, two more podiums the year after, a CEV Moto3 podium, a substitute Moto3 outing for the Snipers team at the 2022 Catalan Grand Prix, and fifth in the 2024 Junior World Championship on the way to a full-time Moto3 seat for 2025. This decor's colours are tied to that trajectory rather than to a finished career.

A rider three seasons into a career doesn't yet have the settled, decades-long identity a veteran champion does — Uriarte's palette on this decor reflects where his career stands now rather than a fixed, career-defining scheme, which is honest about what a young-rider replica actually represents.

Buyers looking for a settled, multi-season identity should look toward one of this range's longer-established riders instead. That's not a criticism of the decor — a rider backing someone early in their career is choosing to follow that trajectory rather than buy into a finished one, and this livery is built for exactly that buyer. It's a fair trade for anyone who'd rather back a rising rider than a settled name. The helmet underneath doesn't change either way — the choice is entirely about which story a rider wants on the shell. Both are Shark-built to the same spec.
