Pure is the plain line of the Cosmo SV, and gloss white is the version that does most for you where a jet actually gets ridden — in town, among drivers who are not expecting a motorcycle.

What an open-face helmet does and does not do

🔵 The Cosmo SV is a demi-jet. It has no chin bar, and the ECE 22.06 open-face category makes no provision for chin or jaw protection — a substantial share of impacts land in exactly that region.

What it does have, unusually for the class, is a full drop-down sun visor and an extended main visor — so the eyes are as well covered as on a full-face. The jaw is not.

About the gloss white finish

Urban riding is the condition in which a motorcyclist is least expected and most often looked through, and it is where an open-face helmet spends almost all of its life. A white shell at head height is resolved measurably sooner by a driver at a junction than a dark one — and on a jet, where your face is already visible, the helmet is the only part of you working at that distance. There is a thermal benefit alongside it: a pale shell reflects solar load a dark one converts into interior heat, which matters at the low speeds a jet is used at. 🔵 The cost is dirt, and white shows city road film sooner than anything else here.

HIRP, ECE 22.06 and DOT

The shell is HIRP — High Impact Resistant Polymer — a high-strength thermoplastic tuned for impact resistance relative to weight, homologated to ECE 22.06 and approved to DOT.

🔵 MT states the helmet was designed to surpass ECE 22.06 with every accessory fitted, including the UCS intercom. That is the manufacturer's claim; the certifications themselves are the verifiable part.

MT-ESP — a full-coverage sun visor on a jet

The drop-down sun visor is the feature that separates this from most demi-jets: it is full-coverage, developed under MT's MT-ESP programme — Extended Sunvisor Protection — rather than the partial shield an open-face usually gets.

🔵 On a jet that matters more than on a full-face, because there is no chin bar edge to block low sun from underneath.

The MT-V-37 visor and the patented MT-QVSS

The MT-V-37 is an extended visor — longer than a demi-jet usually carries — and it runs on MT-QVSS, MT's patented Quick Visor Swap System, which removes and refits it in seconds without tools.

🔵 There is no Pinlock option for this visor. On a jet that matters less than on a full-face, because your breath escapes downwards into open air rather than circulating behind a chin bar.

Active ventilation and the removable rear deflector

Ventilation is active: front intakes and a rear exhaust, with colour-matched vent pieces that are part of the finish rather than bolted on afterwards.

🔵 On top of that sits the feature that separates this from most jets — a tool-free removable rear deflector that lets you fine-tune both airflow and noise rather than accepting what the shell gives you.

The MT-Micrometric+ closure

Retention is MT-Micrometric+, a micrometric ratchet with a guaranteed minimum two-tooth anchorage — which is what makes the lock feel positive rather than approximate.

🔵 Check the adjustment every few months. A ratchet has a set position that can drift, and the helmet should be snug enough that it cannot be rolled forward off your head.

Interior, fit and intercom preparation

The interior is fully removable and washable, and MT lists the Cosmo SV under its EcoConscious programme — a materials and production commitment rather than a performance claim.

🔵 Wash the lining a few times a season. Sweat breaks down foam over time, and on a jet the padding also collects road dust that a full-face's does not.

The helmet is prepared for MT's own UCS MT-Rider Sync intercom — a pre-installation rather than merely space you have to make.

🔵 MT states the helmet was designed to surpass ECE 22.06 with the intercom fitted, which is a more useful claim than it first appears: an accessory mounted on a shell is not normally part of what gets certified.

The weight figure, and the rest of the honest list

🔵 MT's headline weight for the Cosmo SV is 1.5 kg, and that is the figure we quote because it is the one the manufacturer publishes. Aggregated retail spec listings put the standard open-face closer to ~1350 g.

We could not confirm the lower number on a manufacturer or editorial page, so we use MT's own — and tell you the discrepancy exists rather than picking the flattering one.

Where it sits in MT's range

The Cosmo SV is MT's flagship demi-jet and the best-equipped open-face they make. Below it sit the Viale SV S and the considerably cheaper Street S; the Le Mans 2 SV S is the classic-styled jet in the range.

🔵 If you want chin protection, MT's Stinger 2 is the entry full-face and the Thunder 4 R SV the everyday one.

When something wears out

Everything on this helmet that wears is available separately: the MT-V-37 visor, the sun shield, cheek pads, the complete lining, the vent pieces and the rear deflector.

🔵 What cannot be replaced is a crushed EPS liner. After a real impact the helmet is finished, however it looks from outside.
