DescriptionThe whole story

Low-speed modulation is what a rider notices on the Indian SPRINGFIELD. ZCOO answers with the N005, 70.0 by 49.3 mm of ceramic-sintered friction material cut for the Nissin caliper. The compound is EX Race, which on the Indian SPRINGFIELD builds force with the lever instead of ahead of it.

Key Features

  • The friction blocks are separated so the N005 material can expand into the gaps rather than against itself
  • No proprietary tooling needed: the N005 drops into the Nissin caliper the SPRINGFIELD already has
  • No bedding-in ritual: the N005 reaches its working friction level within the first few stops
  • No ECE R90 type approval is documented for this compound - treat the N005 as a track and competition part
  • No warm-up needed: the N005 works at the first cold stop of the day, which is why ZCOO sells EX Race for road as well as circuit use
  • Ceramic sintering rather than a resin binder, so there is nothing in the N005 to cook out at the top of the range

Construction and Material Quality

The N005 is made by Okada Corporation in Japan. A Nissin caliper spreads under peak line pressure, and a plate that yields with it moves the contact patch onto the pad's edges. For the rider of an SPRINGFIELD the whole of that engineering shows up as one thing: a lever that means the same on the last stop as on the first.

Performance and Feel

On an SPRINGFIELD the second half of a session is where EX Race earns its price. The compound lays a thin ceramic film on the rotor as it beds, which is why the Indian SPRINGFIELD sees far less disc wear than a conventional sinter would cause. On a machine as heavy as the Indian SPRINGFIELD that predictability is what makes low-speed work comfortable.

Fitment and Compatibility

Fitment covers the Indian SPRINGFIELD from 2015 to 2023 with the Nissin caliper. The same N005 shape covers 19 further machines in the 2026 catalogue. Before ordering, check that your caliper takes a pad of 70.0 mm length and 49.3 mm height. Front axle exclusively - there is no rear N005.

Road Approval

No ECE R90 type approval is documented for this pad. It appears neither in ZCOO's own catalogue nor on the European distributor's site, and no approval number is printed on the packaging data available to us. ZCOO itself describes the compound as suited to competition machines and road machines alike, but that is a description of the mixture, not a type approval. Until the distributor confirms an approval in writing, treat this as a track and competition part: in Germany a replacement brake pad without ECE R90 approval may not be fitted to a motorcycle used on public roads. Ask us before ordering if you need this clarified for your machine.
