Both figures on a Sprint Filter media sheet are quoted per square metre: 5,050 litres a second for the standard P08, 1,800 for this dust medium. Neither is a statement about an individual filter until you know how much material is inside it. That is worth holding on to when the P14 number looks alarming beside the other, because a litre-class airbox is not a small one, and Sprint Filter builds its elements with roughly twice the cloth of a typical performance filter.
Key Features
- Dry nonwoven at 14 µm, rated 1,800 l/m²/sec — the finest medium catalogued for this housing
- Flow and filtration are stated per unit area; the housing decides how much area there is
- Roughly double the working material of a typical performance element
- Depth filtration through the mat rather than retention at one surface
- Standard CB1000R airbox, no modification and no remapping
- Washable and reusable, with two years of guarantee
Per square metre, and why that matters
A rating per unit area answers a question about a material, not about a part. Two elements cut from the same medium for different housings will not behave alike, because one holds more material than the other, and the same applies to one housing filled with different media. What the numbers do fix is the direction of the exchange: finer material, more retention, less flow, every time and without exception. Area does not cancel that relationship. It scales it, and a generously sized housing is a more comfortable place to spend flow than a cramped one.
What the dust medium is holding back
Mineral grit lifted off unswept roads, the dry residue of a summer with no rain in it, the haze that hangs behind a lorry on a farm road. The small end of that range is what a 14 µm mat is written for, and it is also the part a coarser medium passes on. What the choice cannot do is add anything: an insert filter does not make a standard motorcycle noticeably stronger, and a fine one gives capacity away rather than gaining any. The honest test is the air you ride in, not the engine you ride behind — riders who cannot name a dusty month in their year are better served by the standard P08.
Care and cleaning
An air line at the clean face, directed outward, is the routine service for the PM203P14, and it is enough for most of the material's life. When a dry spell has packed in more than air will shift, wash it in lukewarm water with a mild washing-up detergent and rinse until the run-off is colourless. Then let it dry in moving air, away from radiators, hot air guns and flame, since heat is what damages polyester and a damaged element gives up its seal before it gives up its appearance. Nothing is applied afterwards. The maintenance sheet sits in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Catalogued for the Honda CB1000R of model years 2018 through 2026, one machine on the list. The identical housing is also served by the standard P08 and by the P08 F1-85 racing cloth, so the choice on this motorcycle is a choice of material rather than of fit. The Fitment tab carries the detail.
