Sprint Filter P08 Air Filter for Road & Track – Honda MSX125 (2021–2026) SM224S

Two Sprint Filter panels for a Honda 125 can sit side by side and look like close relatives. They do not swap. The MSX125 has worn the same name since it arrived, yet the machine built from 2021 takes an element of its own, the SM224S, and nothing in the name announces it. Honda reworked the engine for that year and added a fifth gear; the airbox took a new shape in the same round of work, and a filter is cut for a shape.

The name carried over, the part number did not

Sprint Filter numbers its elements after airboxes. A model name is a decision about continuity; an airbox is a physical volume with a sealing face and a fixed opening, and those are the things an element has to meet. When Honda revised this 125 for 2021 — new engine internals, five ratios where there had been four — the box that feeds it was revised too, and the older element stopped being the right answer. Hence a second listing under an unchanged name. The years quoted here, 2021 to 2026, are the part of this description doing the real work; if the MSX125 in the garage is older, the neighbouring listing is the one to open.

A question asked once

Paper panels bring this problem back on a schedule. Every service is another order, another chance to buy for the wrong generation, and on a name that has now spanned more than a decade that chance is not small. An element built to last the life of the machine turns the lookup into a single event: identify it once, and from then on the part on the bike is the part being serviced. On a small motorcycle that is worth as much as the technical argument. The technical argument is a lower and above all steadier resistance in the intake tract between services — not extra output, which no drop-in element on a standard road 125 can honestly promise.

Care and cleaning

All of it is done dry and by hand. Compressed air comes first, applied to the clean side so dirt travels back out of the weave instead of deeper into it. Warm water with a little mild detergent handles heavier deposits; rinse until nothing more washes out. Drying belongs in open air and nowhere else, since hot air and flame both ruin the medium, and the SM224S returns to the airbox only when it is dry throughout.
