The Aprilia RS 457 makes its power in a narrow, busy band, which is exactly why its air filter matters more than the price tag suggests. The Sprint Filter P08 PM252S replaces the standard paper element with a dry polyester medium that flows more freely from the first ride and keeps flowing, because you wash it instead of replacing it. Sprint Filter has supplied Aprilia Racing in World Superbike and MotoGP since 2015, and the P08 is the road-going expression of that work.

Why the polyester medium behaves differently

An air filter has two jobs that pull against each other: pass as much air as possible, and stop what would damage the engine. Cotton gauze and sponge answer that by stacking layers, which means flow is poor in some areas and filtration is weak in others depending on how the layers happen to sit. Sprint Filter's polyester fabric is permeable, dimensionally stable and unaffected by the folding used to build the element, so the passage stays even across the whole surface. The OEM paper element does the opposite over time: as it loads with dirt its pleats deform, and an irregular pleat cannot deliver a constant volume of air.

Road, commute and the occasional track day

It raises airflow without trading away the filtration you want on a road bike that sees rain, town traffic and summer dust in the same week. If your riding has moved almost entirely to the circuit, look at the P08 F1-85 instead; if you spend your summers on dusty back roads, the P14 is the more protective option. For everything in between, the PM252S is the one to fit.

Care and cleaning

Cleaning is a two-minute job. Direct an air jet through the element in the opposite direction to normal intake flow and most of the accumulated debris comes straight out. If it is genuinely filthy, start with compressed air, then soak it in ordinary household detergent, agitate it gently, rinse until the water runs clear and let it air dry completely before refitting.
