DescriptionThe whole story▼
CY20232 closes the right-hand side of the R9's race bodywork and carries the CY20239 wing. Physically it is the mirror of the left panel; practically it is the one that gets damaged more often, because it is the side a bike tends to land on when it lets go on a right-hander.
Key Features
- Right-hand flank for the R9 race bodywork, mating to CY20210 and CY20220
- Mounting prepared for the CY20239 carbon wing
- Autoclave-cured prepreg laminate
- Sold individually, so a single damaged flank is a single order
- Supplied in bare buffed weave without clearcoat
Repair or Replace
Carbon panels can be repaired, and a competent composite shop will make a cracked flank structurally sound again for a fraction of a new panel. Two things decide whether it is worth it. First, where the damage is: a crack running into a mounting hole is a poor candidate, because the repair has to carry load. Second, whether the panel is painted — a repair under paint is invisible, a repair under bare weave never quite is. For a bike running team colours, repairing is usually the right call; for one running naked carbon, it usually is not.
Ordering Ahead
Carbonin build to order, so a flank needed for the next round is not a flank ordered the week before. Teams that race a full season tend to hold one spare panel per side and replace it as it gets used, rather than ordering after each incident.
Fitment
For the Yamaha R9, 2024 to 2026. The left-hand panel is CY20231.
Road Approval
No approval is supplied. The panel is for closed-circuit use.
