DescriptionThe whole story▼
9.4 horsepower on a restricted machine. That is a larger gain than the full-power Z900 header delivers, and it happens because the restriction on the A2 version is partly physical — Kawasaki does not only reprogram the ECU.
Key Features
- 9.4 PS more at 9,500 rpm, peak output rising from 87.4 to 92.2 PS
- 5.0 Nm more at 6,600 rpm
- 3.35 kg against the standard 7.38 kg: 4.03 kg and 54.6 per cent less
- Developed and measured on the Z900 A2 version
- Works with any Slip-On Line for this machine
- Sixty minutes to fit
- No road approval — circuit use only
Read This Before You Order
This header has no road approval, and on an A2-registered motorcycle that matters twice over. Removing the catalytic converter ends the type approval, and raising the output of a machine registered in a restricted power class is a separate problem again.
This is a part for a Z900 A2 used on a circuit. On a road-registered A2 bike it is not a legal modification, and no amount of paperwork will make it one.
Why an A2 Bike Gains More
Kawasaki restricts the Z900 A2 to 70 kW through a combination of mapping and hardware, and the standard exhaust is part of that combination. Opening it recovers more than it would on a machine that was never held back.
Whether that is useful depends entirely on where the motorcycle is ridden.
Four Kilograms
The weight saving is the part that applies regardless. 4.03 kg out of the lowest, most central position on the bike, on a machine often ridden by someone still building confidence — that is a genuine improvement and it does not depend on the power figures at all.
Six Model Years
The A2 Z900 ran from 2018 to 2023 with the same exhaust interface throughout, which is one year longer than the full-power first generation. One part number covers all of it.
Any Slip-On for the A2
Akrapovic states this header works with any Slip-On Line built for the Z900 A2. If a silencer is already on the bike, the header is the only purchase left to make a complete system — and it is the part that does the real work.
Four Kilograms on a Restricted Bike
The A2 Z900 weighs the same as the full-power machine — Kawasaki restricts the output, not the mass. So a rider on a restricted licence is moving 212 kg with 95 PS, and 4.03 kg off the lowest part of it is proportionally the more useful change of the two this header offers.
Sixty Minutes on a Lift
The A2 machine shares its chassis with the full-power Z900 of the same years, so the work is identical: the header comes out from below with the belly section clear, and nothing at the front of the motorcycle has to be dismantled.
Fitment and Compatibility
E-K9R5 covers the Kawasaki Z900 A2 version from 2018 through 2023. The full-power machine takes E-K9R2 or E-K9R4 depending on year.
Road Approval
None. This product does not meet emission compliance requirements for street or highway use.
