DescriptionThe whole story▼

A summer storm changes a road in about ninety seconds. The air cools, the dust that has been lying on the surface since the last rain lifts into a greasy film, and a rider who was pressing on finds the whole afternoon rewritten. The Ducati Panigale 959, listed from 2016 to 2020, is the sort of machine that gets ridden on exactly the afternoons when that happens. Accossato's front pad for it sits on the AGPA177 carrier, and this article is the Sintered material, a compound the company ties to a constant grip level at any disc temperature and to holding on when the faces are wet.

Key Features

  • Front brake pads for the Ducati Panigale 959, 2016 to 2020
  • AGPA177ST: the AGPA177 carrier pressed with the Sintered material
  • Accossato names a constant grip level hot or cold, and grip in the wet
  • For long rides where the weather is allowed to do what it likes
  • Two pads to a box, the set for a single caliper
  • This machine carries a caliper on each front disc, so the wheel takes two boxes
  • The same carrier is also offered in EV1, EV2 and ZXC
  • No German ABE in our files; listed for racing and closed-course use

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato sells this material on its refusal to behave differently from one day to the next. The claim is that the same pull at the lever produces much the same result whether the discs are cold, warm or soaked, which is a modest promise until you are in the middle of a downpour thirty minutes from home. Underneath the friction face is the AGPA177 carrier, used for every material in the group, so the choice a 959 owner makes between the four listings concerns the surface that meets the disc and leaves the rest of the part untouched.

Ninety Seconds After the Sky Breaks

The first minutes of a summer downpour are the awkward ones. Oil and rubber dust that have been baked into the surface for weeks come up as a slick, water has not yet washed the road clean, and the temperature drop takes the edge off a tyre that was working perfectly a moment earlier. On a Panigale 959 the sensible response is to stop pressing on and to lengthen everything: the distance to the car in front, the run-up to each bend, the time spent upright before turning in.

After twenty minutes of proper rain the road is usually better than it was at the start of the shower. That is the point at which a rider can begin to trust the front brake again, though still with a light preliminary application to wipe the discs before each junction. When you get home, resist putting the machine away wet, and once a wet season is over give the front end a proper look: material remaining on both sides, fluid condition, and whether the 959 still pulls up straight under a firm application on a quiet road.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato records this article for the front wheel of the Panigale 959 from 2016 to 2020, and its table names the 959 Corse within the same span. Machines outside that period are covered elsewhere in the catalogue. The rear axle of the 959 takes the AGPA42 across the same years, and the disc range holds the DK008, the DK053 and the DKS035 for this Ducati. Each box serves one caliper, and both front calipers should be given fresh material on the same day.

Road Approval

The AGPA177ST reached us with no German ABE and no supporting test report. It is therefore catalogued as a racing and closed-course part, and we make no claim about its use on public roads.

Scope of Delivery

One box holding two AGPA177 pads in the Sintered material, the set one front caliper needs. A complete front change on a Panigale 959 uses two boxes.
