DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Caponord takes its name from the North Cape, and the 1200 generation of Aprilia's tourer was built for journeys of that scale: a week or more on the road, a different hotel every night, the same luggage strapped back on each morning. On trips like these a small routine forms before departure, a walk round the bike to look at tyres, chain and engine oil. For the Caponord 1200 built from 2013 to 2016, Accossato makes the FP001, an oil filler cap machined from aluminium with an M20x1.5 thread, anodised in eight colours.
Key Features
- Oil filler cap for the Aprilia Caponord 1200, 2013 to 2016
- Also listed for the Carabinieri version of 2015
- Thread size M20x1.5, as stated by Accossato
- Aluminium body, CNC-machined and anodised
- Eight colours: orange, blue, green, black, red, silver, titanium, gold
- Usable on other motorcycles with the same cap size after a check
- No German ABE on file; for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato shapes the FP001 from aluminium on CNC machines and then anodises it, so the colour is part of the metal's surface rather than a coat of paint on top. The thread is M20x1.5, the size Accossato gives for this cap on every bike in its list. You decide the finish when ordering. Silver, titanium or black keep the engine looking close to standard; gold, red, orange, blue or green turn the filler into a small point of colour that catches the eye whenever you crouch beside the bike.
Topping Up in a Hotel Car Park
On tour, the moment to check the oil of a Caponord 1200 is first thing in the morning, before the engine has run. The bike has stood all night, everything has settled, and hotel car parks usually offer a patch of level tarmac. Read the level exactly as the owner's manual describes, because it tells you how the bike must stand and where to look. If oil is needed, wipe around the filler first so that road dust cannot fall into the opening, then add a little at a time and check again before adding more. A small bottle of the oil named in the manual, wrapped in a rag, travels well in a side case. When the FP001 goes back in, turn it in with your fingers until it sits down on its face and stop there; extra force does not make it seal better, it only makes the next opening harder. After the first stretch of the day, a glance at the cap and the engine case around it tells you whether everything has stayed dry.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the FP001 for the ETV 1200 Caponord from 2013 to 2016, including the Carabinieri version of 2015. Because the cap is defined by its M20x1.5 thread, Accossato also says it can be used on other motorcycles with the same cap size. At Inter-Pace the same cap is catalogued for the Caponord 1200 Rally, the Dorsoduro 1200 and the Suzuki DL1000 V-Strom. If your Caponord 1200 has been modified or you are unsure about the thread, compare with the original cap before ordering. For the same bike, Accossato also offers the FP007 clutch master cylinder cover and the TS003 front brake fluid reservoir cap.
Road Approval
We hold no test or approval documents for this cap, neither a German ABE nor a test mark, so we list the FP001 for racing and competition use.
