DescriptionThe whole story▼
Blip the throttle of a V7 III Racer at a standstill and the whole motorcycle rocks sideways. The reason is the Moto Guzzi layout: the crankshaft of the transverse V-twin runs along the length of the bike, so every change in revs twists the machine a little around its own axis. It is part of the character, and a reminder that this drivetrain answers directly to what your hands do. The Accossato ESD037 is a clutch lever for the V7 III Racer of 2017 to 2020, CNC-machined from aluminium, anodised and adjustable in its distance to the grip.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the V7 III Racer, model years 2017 to 2020
- Takes the place of the stock lever at the original clutch mounting
- Reach adjuster close to the pivot
- Blades: short, standard at approximately 138 mm, and long
- Silver in standard and short; black and red in standard only
- Machined aluminium, anodised, black hub
- Rigid lever without a folding joint
Construction and Material Quality
Anodising is an electrochemical treatment, not a coat of paint. Once the ESD037 has been machined, its surface is converted into a hard oxide layer, the dye settles into the pores of that layer, and the pores are then sealed. The colour therefore belongs to the aluminium and copes with the daily rub of a glove far better than lacquer would. Accossato finishes the lever in two tones: a black hub, which holds the pivot and the adjuster, and a blade in the colour of your choice. The blade itself is fixed, without any hinge between hub and tip.
Rolling Away Without the Lurch
The sideways twitch at a standstill is harmless, but the same directness shows when you pull away. The V7 III Racer sends its drive through a shaft rather than a chain, and a shaft has no slack to soak up a clumsy release: let the clutch out too quickly and the jolt goes straight through the driveline to the rear tyre, whereas a steady release lets the bike roll off cleanly. Café racers invite brisk getaways, yet the tidy ones come from control, not from a fast left hand. That control is easier when the lever sits where the fingers can hold the friction point without stretching. Use the adjuster to bring the ESD037 in until your fingers wrap the blade at their middle joints while the palm stays on the grip. The standard blade is closest to the lever Moto Guzzi fitted; the long blade spreads the pull across the whole hand and lightens it; the short blade suits riders who keep two fingers on the clutch.
Fitment and Compatibility
The ESD037 is listed for the V7 III Racer from 2017 to 2020, with the model entered as V7 750 Racer. It is fitted where the stock lever sits today, at the bike's own clutch mounting. For the right hand, the EDF016 brake lever is listed for the same years. Both can be ordered in matching colours, although black and red are made only in the standard length.
Road Approval
We sell the ESD037 for track use, as no German ABE is documented for it.
