Engineered exclusively for professional superbike competition, the Talos X82 SBK is a race-only front brake caliper that carries a single, non-negotiable design mandate: deliver maximum deceleration force with absolute fade resistance, lap after lap. This is the front right unit in the DLC finish, mounting at the 108 mm SBK standard — a purposeful departure from OEM geometry that signals exactly what this caliper is built for.

Key Features

  • Evolved from the X80 platform with the addition of precision-machined cooling fins and air-channelling pockets that actively manage caliper temperature under sustained track loading
  • Monoblock aluminium body CNC-milled from a single high-rigidity billet — zero flex at the limit, surgically sharp bite point and consistent lever feel throughout the longest stints
  • P4 piston layout: 2x34 mm plus 2x38 mm titanium pistons with TIN (titanium nitride) coating for peak heat resistance and minimal piston-to-bore friction
  • Titanium pad carriers guide the brake pads and simultaneously protect the aluminium body from wear
  • DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) finish — harder than hard-anodised, ultra-low friction coefficient, superior thermal stability and a deep, premium black appearance
  • Race-only 108 mm SBK mounting standard — designed for dedicated racing chassis and superbike conversions, not OEM production bikes or standard brake discs

Cooling Fins — Why They Matter in Competition

The defining structural upgrade of the X82 over the X80 is its intricately machined cooling fin array. On a race circuit, brake caliper temperature management is not cosmetic — it is a performance and safety parameter. The fins achieve the following:

  • Accelerated heat dissipation under continuous high-load braking
  • Consistently elevated friction coefficient even deep into extended track sessions
  • A stable, predictable bite point maintained across complete race stints
  • Significantly reduced brake fade because piston and pad temperatures remain more controlled
  • Extended pad service life through reduced thermal stress on friction material
  • Improved brake fluid stability at elevated ambient temperatures

Monoblock SBK Construction

The X82 body is milled from a single block of high-stiffness aluminium. A monoblock caliper eliminates the bridge bolts and potential micro-flex of a two-piece unit, translating every input from the lever into immediate, linear clamping force. The practical consequences on track are clear: braking points can be carried deeper, trail braking is more precise, and the rider receives direct, honest feedback from the tyre contact patch.

P4 34/38 Titanium Pistons

The racing-oriented piston layout combines two 34 mm and two 38 mm pistons, all manufactured in titanium with a TIN coating. Titanium reduces thermal transfer from the pad into the brake fluid — a key factor in preventing vapour lock — while the TIN surface treatment keeps friction between piston and bore to a minimum. The graduated sizing produces strong initial bite followed by progressive, controllable modulation at the apex, with no fade even at elevated caliper temperatures.

DLC Finish

This variant carries the DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) surface treatment, designated DL in the part number. DLC sits above hard-anodised in every meaningful performance metric: greater surface hardness, a lower coefficient of friction, superior resistance to high operating temperatures, and an appearance that distinguishes high-end racing hardware from the rest of the field.

Fitment and Compatibility

The Talos X82 SBK uses the 108 mm SBK racing mount standard. It is not compatible with OEM mounting geometry, OEM production brake discs, or standard road bikes. It is designed for dedicated racing chassis, superbike conversions and purpose-built competition motorcycles. Compatible disc parameters: thickness 6.0–7.3 mm, diameter 320–338 mm, with a 30 mm friction track. This caliper fits the following machines when configured with appropriate SBK racing hardware:
