Where an engine is stripped regularly, a small amount of extra fine dust is a cost accounted for at the next rebuild. Where an engine is expected to run for a decade untouched, that same dust is a bill nobody itemises. The 85 in the name is not a pore size, and in Sprint Filter's 100-micron test the racing cloth retains slightly more, 95.22 % against 93.13 %, though no figure is published for the finest dust. Neither element adds power to a standard machine, so the flow is only worth having if something upstream has been changed to ask for it. On a machine built around riding where the air is dirty, a racing cloth drawn for inspection between sessions runs against the bike's own purpose.
