Öhlins specifies seal compounds for temperature stability rather than for the lowest unit cost. Cross-section is as important as diameter: an O-ring that is too thin will not seal at pressure. The dust seal does the hard work: it keeps the grit that would score the shaft away from the oil seal.

Original Öhlins Part

Öhlins manufactures service parts on the same lines as production parts — there is no second quality. Every part in this catalogue is one Öhlins fits itself during assembly and service. If you are between two sizes, send us the measurement and we will check it against the catalogue. Tell us the damper's model designation and year and we will match the number for you.

Identifying the Right Part

The reliable route is the exploded drawing: find the position, read the number, order it — 21853-02 in this case. Öhlins does not publish a dimension here — go by the number and the exploded view. Dust seals keep grit off the running surface; once they are torn, the oil seal behind them has a short life. The dust seal does the hard work: it keeps the grit that would score the shaft away from the oil seal.

Fitting and Setup Service

Öhlins recommends that its units are serviced by an authorised centre.
