Piston bands are consumables — they wear against the bore and lose their seal gradually.

Key Features

Original Öhlins service part

Dimension B 39 mm

Öhlins part number 21018-02

Dimension A 8 mm

Function

8 mm, 39 mm: that is the whole specification, and it has to match what came out. A scored piston face means oil bypasses the shims entirely. A worn piston band lets oil past the outside of the piston, which shows up as damping that has gone soft. Port area and shim seat geometry decide the damping curve before any adjuster is touched.

Why the Original

Öhlins supports units that are decades old, which is why the spare parts list runs to thousands of numbers. Öhlins numbers every position so a workshop can order precisely what it needs, not a whole assembly. If you are unsure which number your unit takes, send us the model and serial number of the damper and we will look it up. Service parts are ordered per piece unless stated otherwise.

Getting the Number Right

Part number 21018-02 is unambiguous; the description alone is not, because Öhlins uses similar wording across sizes. Öhlins states dimension a 8 mm, dimension b 39 mm for this number, and those figures are the deciding ones. A scored piston face means oil bypasses the shims entirely. Bands are consumables and are replaced at every rebuild.

Fitting and Setup Service

We are an authorised Öhlins service centre, so you do not have to source the tools and the nitrogen: send us the damper and we rebuild it with the correct parts and the correct setting.

Specifications

Brand: Öhlins

Part Number: 21018-02

Category: Piston Bands

Dimension A: 8 mm

Dimension B: 39 mm

Country of Origin: Sweden

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0949/7831/0410/files/21018-02_44d4be3d-fe52-42c7-a99a-bcafda07fdee.png?v=1788879312
