Construction & Performance
At the heart of the HO 468 is Öhlins' TTX (Twin Tube X-change) architecture, which separates the compression and rebound circuits into dedicated chambers. This allows each damping stage to be tuned in isolation, eliminating the compromise inherent in conventional monotube designs. The fixed external reservoir maintains a stable oil temperature and volume buffer, keeping damping characteristics consistent whether you are threading through alpine passes or pushing hard on a club track day.
The 36 mm piston is larger than standard OEM fitments, reducing internal pressure spikes and extending service intervals. Spring rate is 105 N/mm — a well-chosen value for the SC77 chassis that balances corner-entry stability with mid-corner compliance. Overall length is 302 mm with a generous adjustment range of +4 / -2 mm, and stroke is 60 mm. The spring supplied is Öhlins part 21040-36.
Road & Track Use
For road riders, the ABE approval on the CBR 1000 RR (non-SP) means the unit can be fitted and ridden on public roads in Germany without additional paperwork. The hydraulic preload adjuster makes it straightforward to compensate for pillion loads or track-day luggage changes without tools.
For the CBR 1000 RR SP variant, please note that fitting this unit disables the factory electronic suspension control system. The SP does not carry a Teilegutachten (parts certificate) for this shock, so riders intending road use should verify local registration requirements before fitting. On track, where electronics can be bypassed in any case, this is not a practical limitation.
Installation instructions are included. For optimal setup and damping calibration, Öhlins recommends fitment by an authorised Öhlins Service Centre.
