A scored bore means lost damping, because the oil bypasses the piston rather than being forced through the shims.

Key Features

Diameter 46 mm

Original Öhlins service part

Length 26 mm

Öhlins part number 01270-08

Where It Sits

At 46 mm, 26 mm it fits one position only; the next size up carries a different number. A tube that has been bottomed hard often shows a ring mark; that is a reason to replace it. Most seal kits are built around a specific head design. The cylinder is one of the few damper parts that is genuinely wear-limited.

Genuine Service Part

Suspension is one of the few areas where the original part is genuinely the cheaper decision. Every part in this catalogue is one Öhlins fits itself during assembly and service. Öhlins parts are unit-specific: a close dimension is not a substitute. Service parts are supplied per piece unless the description says otherwise.

Getting the Number Right

Part number 01270-08 is unambiguous; the description alone is not, because Öhlins uses similar wording across sizes. diameter 46 mm, length 26 mm is what distinguishes this number from its neighbours in the range. The tube is what the whole damper is built around: everything else references its bore. A head that has been over-tightened distorts and stops sealing.

Fitting and Setup Service

Öhlins recommends that its units are serviced by an authorised centre.
