The Yamaha YZF-R6 is one of the most demanding supersport machines ever built, and its wet clutch is a critical interface between rider intent and rear-wheel traction. TGP MotoRacing's Hyperdiscs replace the factory steel friction drive plates with precision-coated aluminium discs, reducing rotating mass in the clutch pack significantly — the result is a clutch that responds with greater immediacy, runs cooler under sustained hard use, and delivers a more consistent bite point whether you are chasing lap records or threading through traffic.
Key Features
- Aluminium construction replaces OEM steel drive plates — measurably lower rotating mass for reduced inertia throughout the drivetrain
- Improved heat dissipation compared to steel — maintains a consistent clutch feel across multiple hard braking zones and extended track sessions
- Precise 16.0 mm total pack thickness (6 × 2.0 mm + 2 × 3.0 mm configuration) engineered to exact OEM stack dimensions for clean disengagement and a reliable engagement point
- 27-tooth spline profile with outer diameter Ø 132.8 mm and inner diameters Ø 119.8 / 109.9 mm — drop-in fitment, no machining required
- Exclusive compatibility with the original Yamaha wet/oil-bath clutch assembly — ensures correct clamping load and clutch basket clearance are maintained
- Suitable for both road and track use — an accessible performance upgrade for club-level racers and serious road riders alike
Why Reduced Rotating Mass Matters on the R6
At the stratospheric rev ceiling the YZF-R6 operates at, every gram of rotating mass in the clutch pack costs measurable engine response. Replacing steel with aluminium in the drive plate stack cuts rotational inertia where it counts most. On the road and on the circuit, this translates into a suite of felt improvements that become apparent immediately after fitting.
- Faster engine rev response — the motor spins up with noticeably less resistance
- More direct throttle pickup at corner exit — reduced inertia means the power arrives sooner and more cleanly
- A calmer rear end under hard trail braking — less clutch-pack drag during deceleration
- Reduced snatching tendency on aggressive downshifts — the lighter stack decelerates more freely during blipped changes
- More consistent clutch feel in extended sessions — improved thermal management keeps the engagement point stable
Fitment & Engineering Precision
TGP MotoRacing engineered the Hyperdiscs specifically for the R6's OEM clutch basket. The 16.0 mm total pack thickness mirrors the factory specification precisely, ensuring the pressure plate seats correctly and the clutch spring pre-load remains within the designed range. There is no guesswork, no shimming, and no modification to the basket or pressure plate required.
For best results and the most consistent engagement point, TGP MotoRacing recommends fitting new or near-new friction (cork) plates alongside the Hyperdiscs. Running fresh friction plates with the aluminium drive plates produces a clutch pack that is both highly responsive and durable — the ideal combination for track-day regulars and competitive club racing.
Important: these discs are compatible exclusively with the original, unmodified Yamaha clutch assembly. They are not suitable for aftermarket clutch baskets or modified clutch systems of any kind.
