On a long-distance adventure bike, the front sliders are the parts that are allowed to take a beating: when the R 1200 GS Adventure goes over, they should touch the ground first at the front and may reduce the damage to the fork and the axle area. Choose a line with firm, even ground and avoid large stones. Ride the R 1200 GS Adventure through in first or second gear with a steady throttle, standing on the footrests and looking at the far bank, and do not stop in the middle. If the bike falls, switch off the engine at once and do not try to restart it if water may have entered the air intake or the exhaust. Lift the bike and get it out of the water, with help if possible. Then check the engine for water before starting, and look at the sliders, the levers and the handlebar.
