Riders keep the MX 250 two-stroke in a higher gear than on hard-pack and use the clutch to hold the revs where the power is, especially out of turns where the bike has to push through a berm of loose sand. The throttle stays open, the clutch is slipped briefly to help the engine through the heaviest parts, and the rider sits back to let the front float.
