The hub carries the pivot bore and the reach adjuster; the blade runs out from it without any joint, so the lever is rigid from end to end. Anodising converts the outer layer of the aluminium into a hard, coloured oxide. That is why the finish does not sit on the metal the way paint does, and why it is far less likely to chip after a season of use.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eLetting the Twin Slow You First\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOn a V9 Bobber, much of the everyday slowing down happens before you touch the brake. Roll off the throttle and the twin's engine braking takes speed away steadily; add a downshift and it does more. Experienced riders use that as the first stage and bring in the front brake as the second, blending the two so that the bike's attitude barely changes. The skill lies in the handover. A lever that the fingers are already resting on can be squeezed the moment engine braking is no longer enough, without a gap in which the bike simply runs on. With the Bobber's low, flat bar, your hands sit lower and further forward than on the Roamer, so check the reach with your arms in their riding position and bring the blade in until your fingers rest on it naturally. The standard blade is closest to the original lever. A long blade, in blue, gold, green or orange, adds leverage for firmer stops, and the short one is there for two-finger braking.
