Where conventional gas-pressure cartridge systems compromise consistency under sustained track use, the FKR design holds its damping character lap after lap — a distinction that matters when every tenth counts.

Design, Finish and Heritage

Öhlins has supplied front-end suspension components to world championship teams across MotoGP, World Superbike and Endurance racing for more than four decades. The FKR cartridge kit carries that lineage in every machined surface: the architecture is derived directly from homologation-class race hardware, refined for the serious club and track-day racer who demands the same engineering without compromise. The TTX platform itself represents one of the most significant advances in motorcycle fork damping of the past twenty years — its twin-tube cross-over layout was developed specifically to eliminate the performance inconsistency inherent in single-tube gas cartridges when oil temperature rises.

Performance on Track

Fitting the FKR 118 transforms the GSX-R 1000's front-end feel from capable to surgical. The faster damper response sharpens turn-in response and improves feedback under trail braking, where the factory unit can feel vague as the fork compresses rapidly. Traction off the apex improves because the linear damping characteristic prevents the abrupt mid-stroke stiffening that upsets rear grip on corner exit. The three included spring rates allow the setup to be dialled to the rider rather than compromised around a single rate.
