Sprint Filter draws four grades around this airbox, and three of them answer a named condition: one for dust, one for extreme ground, one for racing. The standard element on this page answers none of them, which is exactly what recommends it. A Guerrilla 450 rarely has its fortnight planned around a surface. It gets town, motorway, a back road, a gritty car park, a wet Tuesday, and it gets them in no particular order. Being unspecialised is a specification in its own right, and on a roadster it is usually the right one.
Key Features
- Single-layer woven polyester, dry and never oiled, rated at 80 µm and 5,050 l/m²/sec
- The one grade in this airbox not drawn for a named condition — the general-purpose specification
- Around twice the filtering surface of other performance elements, in the standard housing
- Direct replacement for the series panel: nothing cut, nothing relocated, no remapping
- Measured at 93.13 % retention of 100-micron particles, against 76.42 % for four-layer oiled cotton
- Cleaned and refitted for the life of the machine, with two years of warranty from purchase
Specified for the ordinary
A condition-specific medium is only worth its trade where the condition actually occurs, and most riding weeks do not contain one. The finer grades charge their flow reduction every time the engine breathes, and they collect their advantage only in the hours that are genuinely dirty; the racing grade does the reverse and asks for a demand a road engine has no way to place. Between those, the standard weave asks for nothing and refuses nothing, which is why the other three read as answers to specific questions rather than as upgrades.
What the number is measured against
Sprint Filter's comparison puts this material at 93.13 % of 100-micron particles retained, with four-layer oiled cotton at 76.42 % — worth knowing, because oiled gauze is the reference most riders carry in their heads when they hear washable. That is the other half of the case: this element is washable without ever being oiled, so nothing has to be dosed, and nothing sits upstream waiting to move. What it will not do is make the bike quicker. A drop-in element does not make a standard motorcycle noticeably stronger; it gives a low intake restriction that can be restored rather than one that only ever climbs.
Care and cleaning
The CM274S is cleaned with air before anything else: on the clean side, blowing outwards, so the load exits by the route it took coming in. Water is for the greasy occasions — lukewarm, mild detergent, rinsed until it runs clear — and never a substitute for the air line. Drying is done in moving air at room temperature and by no other means, since heat rather than dirt is what ends a polyester element. It goes back in dry, untreated. Sprint Filter's cleaning sheet sits in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
