DescriptionThe whole story▼
This silencer has no road approval. Akrapovic states it in capital letters: the product does not meet emission compliance requirements for street or highway use. It carries no EC and no ECE certificate. On a CBR300R — a machine many people ride on a restricted licence — that is the first thing you need to know, so it is the first thing written here.
Key Features
- 2.0 kg against the standard 5.9 kg: 3.9 kg and 66.1 per cent less — a third of the original weight
- Carbon fibre construction
- 1.3 PS more at 4,600 rpm and 1.6 Nm more at 4,500 rpm, low in the rev range
- Also fits the Honda CBR250R sold in Japan in 2014 and 2015
- No road approval — circuit use only
Four Kilograms on a Small Bike
The CBR300R weighs 164 kg wet. Removing 3.9 kg is over two per cent of the whole motorcycle, taken from the highest and furthest-back point — proportionally one of the largest changes any single part can make to a machine in this class. On a track day that is felt in direction changes, not just on a scale.
The performance gain is small in absolute terms and sits usefully low: 1.6 Nm at 4,500 rpm on a 286 cc single is a meaningful share of what the engine produces there.
What "No Approval" Means in Practice
Fitting this to a registered motorcycle is the owner's legal responsibility, and on a bike used to commute or to take a test it is very likely to cause a problem at an inspection or a roadside check. It belongs on a machine used at track days or on private land.
If you want an Akrapovic on a road-registered small Honda, ask us — we will check which type-approved parts exist for your exact model and year rather than sell you something you cannot use.
Why Carbon Saves So Much Here
Sixty-six per cent is an extreme figure, and it comes from what the standard part is rather than from anything exotic in the replacement. Honda fits the CBR300R with a large double-skinned steel silencer sized to meet noise limits on a cheap-to-build small bike — 5.9 kg of it. A hand-laid carbon body doing the same acoustic job weighs 2.0 kg.
The lesson is general: the biggest proportional savings in this catalogue are on small, affordable motorcycles, because that is where the manufacturer had the least reason to spend money on lightweight materials.
A Used Motorcycle
The CBR300R ran from 2014 to 2016 and is a used bike today, often a first motorcycle or a track-day machine bought cheaply for exactly that purpose. On a bike used at track days the missing approval costs nothing and the weight is worth a great deal.
Fitment and Compatibility
S-H3SO3-RC covers the Honda CBR300R from model year 2014 through 2016. Akrapovic also lists it as fitting the CBR250R sold in Japan in 2014 and 2015; that machine is not offered in the European market and does not appear in our vehicle selector.
Road Approval
None. This product does not meet emission compliance requirements for street or highway use, and no EC or ECE certificate exists for it.
