DescriptionThe whole story▼
No catalytic converter, no road approval. Akrapovic states it plainly: the open version of this system was developed for racetracks and closed courses only. A noise insert is supplied in the package for circuits that enforce a limit.
Key Features
- 5.0 PS more at 9,200 rpm, with peak output rising from 70.8 to 75.0 PS
- 4.2 Nm more at 5,500 rpm — a large gain and it sits mid-range
- 5.8 kg against the standard 7.7 kg: 1.9 kg and 24.7 per cent less
- High-grade lightweight titanium muffler outer sleeve and end cap
- Stainless steel link pipe and headers
- Resonator hidden under the body behind the lower fairings
- Noise insert included for circuits with a sound limit
- No road approval — track use only
Two Figures That Disagree
Akrapovic's description of this system says it weighs 3.0 kg less than standard. The manufacturer's own technical data gives 7.7 kg standard and 5.8 kg fitted — 1.9 kg, or 24.7 per cent. The two do not reconcile, and the technical figures are the ones that add up, so those are the numbers on this page.
Five Horsepower on a 689
70.8 PS becoming 75.0 is a 5.9 per cent gain on Yamaha's CP2 twin, and the 4.2 Nm at 5,500 rpm matters more for how the bike feels. The R7 is a sportbike built on a modest engine; a system that lifts both the middle and the top changes its character rather than just its noise.
Removing the catalytic converter is what makes that possible, and it is also what removes the approval. The two cannot be separated.
Hidden Where It Should Be
The resonator sits under the body, concealed by the lower fairings, so the visible part of the system is the muffler alone. On a faired sportbike that is the right decision — a Racing Line that showed its plumbing would look unfinished at the very moment it is meant to look purposeful.
Ninety Minutes, and What Comes Off
This is a complete system, and the quoted 90 minutes reflects that honestly. The standard headers, the collector and the catalytic converter all come away, and on a faired sportbike the lower fairings have to be removed to reach them. It is a workshop job.
What goes back on is a stainless header and link pipe with a titanium muffler, and the engine management is left standard — Akrapovic does not require a remap for this system.
Fitment and Compatibility
S-Y7R15-APT covers the Yamaha R7 for model year 2026. Installation is quoted at 90 minutes, which reflects a complete system: the standard headers, collector and catalytic converter all come off. For earlier R7 model years the corresponding part is S-Y7R14-HAPT.
Road Approval
None. The open version of this system has no catalytic converter and was developed for racetracks or closed courses only. Fitting it to a road-registered motorcycle is the owner's legal responsibility.
