DescriptionThe whole story▼

The KTM 125 SX is motocross reduced to its essentials: a light chassis, quick steering and a small two-stroke that only really comes alive high in the rev range. Riding it fast is mostly a matter of never letting the engine fall off that peak, and the tool for that is the clutch. Accossato builds the C7283 clutch lever for the 125 SX of 2016 to 2022, CNC-machined in Italy from solid Ergal 7075, with a four-finger blade that can hinge forward in a crash.

Key Features

  • Folding CNC clutch lever for the KTM 125 SX, 2016 to 2022
  • Replaces the standard lever at the original clutch mount
  • Long blade with room for four fingers
  • Anti-break joint gives the blade a way to fold forward
  • Milled in Italy from solid Ergal 7075 aluminium alloy
  • Blade in black, blue, orange or red, dark base
  • No German ABE documented; for motocross and closed courses

Construction and Material Quality

Every C7283 is milled in Italy out of solid Ergal 7075, a high-strength aluminium alloy. Accossato uses it because it wants its off-road levers to be strong, light and reliable, and the CNC machining leaves a lever in two parts. The base, in a dark finish, stays on the pivot; the blade, which carries the colour, black, blue, orange or red, is attached by the joint that lets it fold. On the clutch side the blade is long, drawn by Accossato for four fingers.

Keeping a 125 on the Pipe

On a 125, every corner of a motocross lap follows a similar pattern. Brake hard on the way in, click down a gear or two, and as the bike turns, feed in the clutch while the throttle stays open, so the revs stay where the engine pulls. Let the lever out too early and the engine drops below its power and bogs; slip it too long and the drive fades. Riders call it keeping the bike on the pipe, and good 125 riders do it without thinking, corner after corner, lap after lap.

That puts the lever in constant use, and it means the left hand is busy when something goes wrong. A stall in a rut, a front wheel that tucks, a rider landing on your line: the 125 SX goes down, often to the left, and the lever strikes the track. The C7283 has a joint that lets its blade fold forward under that sort of blow, so there is a fair chance it still works when you restart and rejoin. On a bike whose pace depends so heavily on the clutch, that can decide whether a moto is finished or abandoned.

Fitment and Compatibility

From 2016 to 2022, the KTM 125 SX takes the C7283 in place of its stock clutch lever, mounted at the original clutch fitting. The B8283 folding brake lever covers the same bikes and two earlier years, from 2014 to 2022. For a 125 SX of 2009 to 2015 the clutch side needs the C7284 instead. Red is offered on this clutch lever but not on the brake lever, so a matching pair is possible in black, blue or orange.

Road Approval

There is no German ABE documented for the C7283. It is sold for motocross and closed off-road courses, which is where the 125 SX belongs anyway.

Scope of Delivery

One C7283 clutch lever, blade in black, blue, orange or red.
