DescriptionThe whole story▼

Anyone who has joined an enduro training weekend knows how often bikes go down there. Instructors ask riders to try the steep turn once more, to stop on the slope, to cross the log at walking pace, and each failed attempt ends with a machine on the ground. A Husqvarna TE 250 that spends two days like this will fall on its left side more than once. Accossato's C7284, a folding clutch lever for the TE 250 of 2017 and 2018, is machined from Ergal 7075 and has a joint made for exactly that kind of repeated, low-speed tumble.

Key Features

  • Folding clutch lever for the Husqvarna TE 250, 2017 and 2018
  • Accossato also lists it for the TE 250 L of 2017
  • Takes the place of the stock lever at the original clutch mount
  • Anti-break joint, Accossato's term for the fold-forward blade
  • Long blade designed for four fingers
  • Machined in Italy from solid Ergal 7075
  • Black, blue or orange blade on a dark base
  • No German ABE; for off-road riding and training

Construction and Material Quality

Machining from solid means the C7284 is not poured into a mould or pressed into shape: a CNC machine removes material from a solid piece of Ergal 7075 until the lever remains. Accossato does this in Italy and uses the alloy, a high-strength type of aluminium, to make a lever that is strong, light and reliable. The finished part comes in two sections. A dark base stays at the clutch pivot, while a coloured blade, long enough for four fingers, is joined to it by the joint that lets it fold.

Two Days of Deliberate Mistakes

Training runs on repetition. A typical session has riders circling a set of cones at walking pace, clutch slipping and rear brake dragging, until they can hold a tight line without dabbing. Then come the slopes: stop halfway up, restart without looping, turn round, ride down. Each exercise is practised until it fails, because the failure is where the lesson lies. For the TE 250 that means many small falls, most of them slow and many to the left, since riders tend to put the left foot down first while the right stays near the brake pedal.

Coaches see what those falls do to standard levers, and fitting folding ones before a course is common advice. When the bike lies down on the C7284, its blade can tip forward on the joint instead of carrying the whole load at its end, so the rider can pick the bike up and repeat the exercise. It cannot save the blade from every angle of impact. But on a weekend where the whole point is to fall and try again, a lever with a good chance of surviving each fall keeps the learning going instead of sending the rider off in search of spares.

Fitment and Compatibility

Model years 2017 and 2018 of the Husqvarna TE 250 are what Accossato lists the C7284 for, together with the TE 250 L of 2017. It goes on the original clutch mount. The 2014 to 2016 bikes need a different clutch lever, the C7283. On the right, the B8283 folding brake lever covers the whole period from 2014 to 2018 and is offered in the same three blade colours as this clutch lever: black, blue and orange.

Road Approval

The C7284 has no German ABE. On a registered TE 250 it is therefore not approved for public roads; use it for off-road riding, training and competition.
