DescriptionThe whole story▼

Touring days on a V-Strom 1000 often begin early, in the chill before the sun has reached the valley floor, and the first thing the cold takes away is fine control in the fingers. The clutch is where you notice it: pulling away from the hotel, threading out of town, stopping at the first junctions. Accossato's ESS014 is a machined aluminium clutch lever for the DL1000 V-Strom of 2002 to 2019, with a distance to the grip you can adjust and a blade made in three lengths.

Key Features

  • Replacement clutch lever for the Suzuki DL1000 V-Strom, 2002 to 2019
  • Fits the original clutch mounting
  • Reach adjuster next to the pivot
  • Long blade in blue, gold, green or orange for a lighter pull
  • Standard length approximately 138 mm in all seven colours
  • CNC-machined aluminium, anodised, with black hub
  • Solid, non-folding blade

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato won an enduro world title in 1985, so riding away from tarmac is part of the company's own history. The ESS014 is machined on CNC equipment from aluminium and then anodised. Its hub, which houses the pivot and the reach adjuster, is black on every version; the blade is dyed in the colour you order. Since the anodised layer is formed from the metal itself, a scuff from a glove or a tank bag strap marks the surface without lifting a flake of paint. The blade is fixed rigidly to the hub, as on the original lever.

Cold Fingers on an Early Start

Cold hands are slow hands. As the temperature drops, fingers lose strength and, more importantly, lose their sense of exactly where the lever is and how far it has travelled. The clutch suffers first, because moving off and riding slowly depend on holding one precise point in the lever's travel. Two settings help. First, bring the blade a little closer to the grip on cold days so that stiff fingers do not have to stretch; with winter gloves on, check that the lever still releases fully before you set off. Second, think about the long blade. Its extra length places the fingers further from the pivot, which lowers the force needed, and a lighter pull is easier to control with numb fingertips. Heated grips, if your V-Strom 1000 has them, warm the palm but not the fingers resting on the lever, so a comfortable reach still pays off. Once the day warms up, the reach goes back to your summer setting in a moment.

Fitment and Compatibility

We offer the ESS014 for the V-Strom 1000 from 2002 to 2019. Accossato spreads the bike over several entries under the DL 1000 and DL 1000 V-Strom names, among them separate lines for 2008 to 2010 and for 2014 and 2015, and its catalogue runs on past the end of production; this product sticks to the model years in which the DL1000 was really made. It takes the place of the original lever at the stock clutch mounting. The matching EDF014 brake lever covers the DL1000 V-Strom over the same years.

Road Approval

Please note that no German ABE is documented for this clutch lever; it is supplied for track use.
