DescriptionThe whole story▼

Many 1190 RC8s now spend the winter under a cover and come out again when the roads are dry and warm. The first pull of the clutch after months of standing is often the moment an owner notices how much the controls matter: the lever feels unfamiliar, the bike may creep with the clutch pulled in and first gear engages with a clunk. For the RC8 of 2008 to 2016, Accossato makes the ESM011, a milled aluminium clutch lever whose reach you can set before the season starts.

Key Features

  • Clutch lever for the KTM RC8 1190, 2008 to 2016
  • Replaces the stock lever at the original clutch mounting
  • Adjustable distance to the grip
  • Short, standard and long blade; standard around 138 mm
  • Seven blade colours, black anodised hub
  • Machined from aluminium on CNC equipment
  • Rigid, one-piece blade

Construction and Material Quality

Half a year in a garage is a test for any finish. Accossato mills the ESM011 from aluminium on CNC machines and anodises it, the hub black and the blade in one of seven colours, and that finish is a hard layer grown from the metal rather than applied onto it. A lever that stands through the winter therefore keeps its colour without the blistering that can creep under painted surfaces. The blade has no hinge; it is fixed, one piece from the hub outwards, and the hub contains the pivot and the reach adjustment. Together they give the RC8 a clutch lever that feels the same on the first ride of spring as on the last ride of autumn.

After the Winter Lay-Up

When a motorcycle stands for months, the plates of an oil-bath clutch can stick together, and the clutch may not free properly the first time you pull the lever. The usual remedy is simple: with the engine off and a gear selected, pull the lever in and rock the bike gently back and forth until the plates part, then start the engine in neutral. Once it is warm, the clutch should feel normal again. The first ride of the season is also the right time to look at the lever itself. Set the reach with the gloves you will wear in spring, often thicker than your summer pair, and make sure the lever returns cleanly and fully when you let go. If you fit the ESM011 to your RC8 over the winter, do it at the end of the lay-up rather than the beginning, so the new position is fresh in your mind when you ride away. Short first trips, gentle gear changes and a few minutes at walking pace in a quiet street make the move from garage to road smoother.

Fitment and Compatibility

The RC8 is listed for the ESM011 from 2008 to 2016, fitted at the clutch mounting KTM installed. Its brake-side partner, the EDF099, is listed for the RC8 from 2009 to 2016 in the same colours.

Road Approval

There is no record of a German ABE for the ESM011; consequently it is sold for circuit use.

Scope of Delivery
