DescriptionThe whole story▼

The XJR1300 is Yamaha's big air-cooled four in its most traditional form: a round headlight, twin rear shocks and an engine you can hear working. It is a heavy, honest roadster, and owners tend to ride it on the roads it suits, country lanes with patched tarmac and the occasional pothole. For the right hand, Accossato offers the EDF016, a CNC-machined aluminium brake lever listed for the XJR1300 from 2004 to 2016; it mounts on the original front master cylinder, and its distance to the grip can be adjusted.

Key Features

  • Brake lever for the Yamaha XJR1300, listed for 2004 to 2016
  • Fits the original master cylinder, replacing the stock lever
  • Adjustable reach with the adjuster near the pivot
  • Long blade for whole-hand braking in orange, green, blue or gold
  • Standard version about 138 mm long, short version in five colours
  • Black anodised hub, blade in one of seven colours
  • Solid, fixed blade without a folding joint

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato machines the EDF016 from aluminium on CNC equipment and anodises it in two tones. The split is deliberate: the hub, which carries the pivot and the adjuster, stays black and blends in beside the master cylinder, while the blade carries the colour. On a classic roadster like the XJR1300, silver or black keeps the look close to the period, and gold or red add a single accent. The lever is fixed and made in one piece, without a hinge that could rattle, so the brake responds directly to the fingers.

Braking Over Broken Tarmac

On a rough road, the bike moves under you while you brake. Twin shocks and a conventional fork do their job, yet the handlebar still kicks and the rider's body shifts, and each jolt can travel into the lever through a hand that grips too hard. The result is uneven braking just when the tyre needs steady pressure. What helps is a relaxed arm and a blade that sits where the fingers can hold a constant force without the wrist doing the work. Set the reach of the EDF016 so the blade is reached with the fingers slightly bent; the hand can then soak up a bump instead of passing it on. On a big four like the XJR1300, many riders brake with the whole hand, and the long blade suits that. Where you can, finish braking before the broken patch and roll across it with the bike upright.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato's list carries the EDF016 under three XJR1300 entries: XJR 1300 for 2004 to 2014, XJR 1300 for 2004 to 2016, and the XJR 1300 Racer. Across them, the lever is given for 2004 to 2016, fitted to the original front master cylinder. For the clutch, Accossato names two levers for the XJR1300: the ESC777 for 1999 to 2016 and the ESY688 for 2015 and 2016. Compare your original clutch lever with the product photos to see which one your bike needs.

Road Approval

No ABE for German roads is documented for this lever; it is sold for track use.
