DescriptionThe whole story▼

On a long, low cruiser such as the Triumph Speedmaster, it is easy to slip into the habit of slowing down mostly with the rear brake. Yet on any motorcycle the front brake does the larger share of the stopping, because braking moves weight onto the front tyre. Using it with confidence starts with a lever you can reach and meter easily. For the Speedmaster of 2006 to 2016, Accossato makes the EDF014, a machined aluminium brake lever for the original master cylinder, with a reach you can bring closer to the grip.

Key Features

  • Brake lever for the Triumph Speedmaster, 2006 to 2016
  • Mounts on the stock front master cylinder
  • Reach adjustable for smaller or larger hands
  • Long blade for four-finger braking in gold, blue, green and orange
  • Standard approximately 138 mm, available in every colour
  • CNC-machined aluminium, anodised, black hub
  • One-piece blade without a hinge
  • Own Accossato box

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato's home today is Villastellone near Turin, where the company's plant has both CNC machining and forging presses. The EDF014 is a machined part: aluminium cut to shape on CNC equipment, then anodised, with a black hub that carries the pivot and adjuster and a blade in silver, black, gold, red, blue, green or orange. It is fixed from end to end, with no folding joint. Whether it sits next to chrome, polished alloy or black paint, the anodised finish keeps its colour without flaking at the edges.

Trusting the Front Brake

When a motorcycle brakes, its weight shifts forward. The front tyre is pressed harder into the road and can transmit more braking force, while the rear becomes lighter and locks more easily. That holds for the Speedmaster just as it does for a sports bike, even if a low seat and a long wheelbase make the pitch forward calmer. A rider who relies mostly on the rear brake therefore leaves much of the available stopping power unused, and in an emergency that difference is measured in metres. Getting used to the front brake starts with reach. If the lever sits too far away, it is natural to avoid it, so bring the EDF014 closer until your fingers can wrap around it without stretching. Then practise on a quiet, dry road: gentle, progressive squeezes of the front lever together with the rear pedal, first from walking pace and gradually from higher speeds, until using both is automatic. On the Speedmaster the long blade suits this well, because four fingers spread the effort and make the squeeze easier to control.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the EDF014 for the Speedmaster from 2006 to 2016, under the name Speedmaster 900, and it fits on the original master cylinder in place of the stock lever. The clutch lever for the same years is the EST333, so both sides of the Speedmaster's handlebar can be finished alike.

Road Approval

No German ABE is documented; accordingly, the EDF014 is sold for use on the track.
