The P14 is usually described as a finer version of the standard element. It is not. The P08 is a woven cloth that stops particles at the plane of its mesh; the P14 is a special nonwoven — a mat of fibres that catches material through its depth as the air works a path between them. Two different kinds of filter, catalogued for the same airbox, and comparing them by aperture alone misses most of what separates them.
Key Features
- Dry special nonwoven material; no oil at any stage and nothing to re-apply after washing
- 14 microns of filtration at a rated 1,800 l/m²/sec, the medium listed for dusty conditions
- What is gained in retention is paid in flow: the P08 is rated 80 microns at 5,050 l/m²/sec
- Roughly twice the filtering surface of other performance elements
- Replaces the paper panel in the series airbox directly; nothing cut, no remapping needed
- Cleaned and refitted rather than thrown away, with two years of warranty from purchase
Surface against depth
A woven mesh presents a plane with openings of a known size, and what it stops sits on the face of it where it can be seen. A fibre mat has no single plane: particles are held at varying depths as the route through the material narrows and turns. One practical consequence is that a loaded nonwoven never looks as dirty as it is, because much of the load is inside rather than on top. The other is that compressed air has to be given the time to work that load back out along the same path it came in by.
The cost side of 14 microns
1,800 l/m²/sec against 5,050 is not a footnote. It is the flow handed over in exchange for the retention, and behind this airbox sits a supercharged litre engine with a real appetite for air. That does not make the choice wrong — dust fine enough to stay airborne is exactly what a mesh at 80 microns passes, and it is the fraction that reaches the running surfaces. It makes it a decision with a stated price, to be taken for the roads this machine is actually ridden on. No element adds power in any case: a panel in an unmodified airbox returns only the restriction it caused.
Care and cleaning
Work an air line across the clean side of the PM153P14 slowly and give it more time than a woven element would need, since part of the load sits below the surface. Water is the second step and only when air has stopped being enough: lukewarm, with a mild washing-up detergent, rinsed until it runs clear. Dry it fully in open, moving air, never with a heat gun, a radiator or a flame, and refit it dry with nothing sprayed on it. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Cut for the series airbox of the Bimota Tesi H2 built from 2020 to 2026, and listed for that machine on its own in the Fitment tab. The same housing carries the standard P08 and the racing F1-85 across three machines, and the 7-micron T12 across two.
