DescriptionThe whole story▼

Most of an emergency stop is about the brake. The last metre is about balance. On a big touring motorcycle, a hard stop only ends well if the bike comes to rest upright, with the handlebar straight and a foot on the ground at the right moment, and that is where the Tiger 1200 XRx Low earns its name, because its lower seat brings the ground within easier reach. For the XRx Low of 2016 to 2021, Accossato makes the EDF014, an aluminium brake lever for the original master cylinder whose reach you can adapt to your hand.

Key Features

  • For the Tiger 1200 XRx Low of 2016 to 2021
  • Replaces the stock lever on the original master cylinder
  • Distance to the grip set with an adjuster near the pivot
  • Standard blade of roughly 138 mm in every colour; short in silver, blue, green, gold and orange; long in the last four
  • Anodised, CNC-machined aluminium
  • Hub black, blade in the colour you choose
  • Rigid blade without a folding joint
  • Track use: no German ABE on record

Construction and Material Quality

In a hard stop the lever has to take everything your hand gives it without flexing or wandering. The EDF014 is shaped from aluminium on CNC machines and anodised afterwards. Its hub is black on every version and carries both the pivot and the reach adjuster, while the blade is finished in the colour you select. Hub and blade form one rigid part, with no hinge that could shift under load, so the blade stays in the same place in your hand from the first squeeze until the XRx Low stands still.

Coming to Rest Upright

Rider training spends a lot of time on the start of an emergency stop: a quick, progressive squeeze that loads the front tyre before the full force goes in. The end deserves the same attention. As the Tiger 1200 slows to walking pace, keep the front brake applied and the bars straight; turning them now, even slightly, is what tips heavy bikes over at the end of an otherwise clean stop. Look ahead, not at the ground, and put a foot down only when the bike has almost stopped. The brake stays on until the motorcycle stands still and balanced, and a lower seat makes that final step easier because the foot finds the tarmac sooner. The lever matters just as much. A smaller hand that has to stretch for the blade tends to lose pressure as the arm tires or the body slides forward; with the reach brought in, the fingers keep a secure hold through the whole stop. Practise on an empty car park, slowly at first, then a little faster.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the EDF014 for the Low versions of the Tiger 1200 Explorer of 2016 and 2017 and, in a second entry, simply for the Tiger 1200 of 2018 to 2021; the list stops at the series and leaves its versions unnamed. As the lever mounts on the original master cylinder shared by the series, we offer it separately for each version in our garage, and this product covers the XRx Low from 2016 to 2021, the Explorer years included. Neither entry pairs it with a clutch lever.

Road Approval

The EDF014 comes without a documented German ABE and is therefore sold for track use.
