DescriptionThe whole story▼

At the end of a long straight on a Suzuki GSX-R1000, the rider's job is to disappear: chin down towards the tank, elbows in, knees against the bodywork, everything tucked behind the screen. How easily you fold into that shape depends a great deal on where your feet are. Accossato's FT062 rearsets for the GSX-R1000 of 2009 to 2016 set the footrests further back than Suzuki's and can run a standard or reversed shift.

Construction and Material Quality

The FT062 is made in aluminium, and its design, in Accossato's words, is simple and functional. The pegs and the tips of both levers carry knurling for grip; aluminium heel plates sit next to them. Accossato calls the rearsets adjustable but does not describe the adjustment or say how many positions there are. For the GSX-R1000 of these years, the set comes all black or black with gold details.

Disappearing Behind the Screen

A good tuck starts at the feet. Slide back in the seat until your chest can come down towards the tank, put the balls of the feet on the pegs and draw the heels in against the heel guards, then tuck the elbows inside the knees. On a big superbike at full speed, any part of the body that sticks out beyond the screen costs speed, and the wind that catches an elbow or a shoulder also tugs at the bars.

With the footrests further back than on the standard GSX-R1000, the legs fold more readily under the body, and many riders find the tuck easier to hold without straining the neck and back. The position pays off at the end of the straight as well. As you sit up for the braking zone, the legs brace against the tank so the arms stay free to steer, and the knurled pegs stop the boots from sliding forward under heavy braking. If you run the reversed pattern, the first downshifts happen in this upright, braking phase with an upward flick of the toe; practise them on the stand until the movement is automatic.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the FT062 for the GSX-R 1000 of 2009 to 2016. For the 2017 to 2019 generation there is a separate set, the FT101. The rearsets replace the rider's original footrests and controls. Have a workshop fit them, set the gear and brake linkages to your boots, check the free play and brake light and tighten everything to Suzuki's specification, with thread lock where the manual requires it.

Road Approval

No ABE or parts certificate is documented for the FT062, so we sell it for track use and not for German roads. A reversed pattern would be unusual on the road anyway.
