Dust is a word that covers two very different things. On an unsurfaced road it means mineral grit lifted by wheels ahead, coarse, dry and arriving in clouds. In city and motorway traffic it means something else entirely: brake and tyre particulate, soot, and a damp road film that behaves more like a paste than a powder. SM239T12 is rated for the first kind, and the label on it says so. A V100 Mandello that spends its life in the second kind is not the machine this grade was drawn for, and it is fairer to say that here than to let the specification imply otherwise.

Naming the conditions honestly

The case for the closest grade is built on air that carries a lot of fine solid matter over a sustained period: gravel roads, agricultural traffic in a dry season, construction diversions, unpaved approaches taken day after day. A Mandello used that way will find the medium doing exactly what its rating promises. A Mandello used on sealed roads, however heavy the traffic, will meet a fraction the standard weave already handles, and the closer cloth will simply cost throughput without a matching return.

The exchange in both directions

Closer means more retained and less passed — one trade, never a ranking, and a closer medium also loads sooner for the same volume of air, which shortens rather than extends the interval between cleanings. Nothing in that arrangement produces power: an element inside an unmodified airbox leaves a series motorcycle making what it always made. The dependable benefit is an intake resistance that starts low and is fully restored by cleaning, on a panel that stays with the machine instead of being consumed by it.

Care and cleaning

Compressed air is the right first step and direction decides whether it works: blow from the clean face outward so the load is driven back out of the nonwoven rather than further into it. For a load that resists air, lukewarm water with a mild detergent is correct; rinse thoroughly, then allow the panel to dry completely in moving air.
