What it changes is the restriction the engine works against: lower at the start, and — because the element is cleaned rather than replaced — the same again after every service instead of drifting upward between them. On a twin that spends its life in small, frequent throttle movements, a stable intake pressure is felt as consistency in the response rather than as a number. If more is wanted, wash it in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and rinse until the water runs clear.
