Ducati sells the DesertX V2 on a promise about terrain, and most of that promise is kept below the seat: wheel sizes, suspension travel, ground clearance. None of it reaches the airbox. The intake sits where Ducati put it and draws whatever the ride happens to contain, so the useful question on this listing is not what the machine can cross, but how many of its hours are actually spent in air lifted off loose ground. PM279S is the Sprint Filter P08 element for the 2026 DesertX V2, and it is one of exactly two media the catalogue offers for this housing.
Key Features
- One woven layer of polyester, run dry from the first kilometre and never treated afterwards
- 80 µm between the threads at a rated 5,050 l/m²/sec, the specification meant for road and track
- Threads from ø 22 microns across — filtering happens in the gaps, not in the fibre itself
- Roughly double the working cloth of other performance elements, folded into the standard frame
- Takes the paper panel's place with nothing cut, nothing moved and no change to the fuelling
- Serviced and refitted for as long as the bike lasts, with two years of warranty from the purchase date
Two cloths, one housing
Sprint Filter catalogues a second medium for this same box, a T12 at 7 µm and 560 l/m²/sec built for extreme conditions. Set beside the P08 at 80 µm and 5,050 l/m²/sec, the pair describe a trade rather than a ranking: a finer structure stops more and passes less, and neither of those is a virtue on its own. A DesertX V2 whose year is a long tarmac approach, some graded track and the ride home is squarely a P08 machine. One that spends its hours inside a dust plume is not, and the honest advice there is to accept the lower flow figure and take the finer cloth.
What the element does not do
It does not add power. Intake, injection and exhaust were developed and homologated as one piece of work with a filter in the middle of them, and dropping a different element into an unmodified box does not make a standard DesertX V2 noticeably stronger. What changes is the behaviour of that one item over time. A paper panel is at its least restrictive on the day it goes in and climbs from there until it is thrown out; this one is brought back to where it started with an air line, as often as you care to, for the life of the motorcycle.
Care and cleaning
Service is an air line and nothing else. Hold the nozzle to the clean face and blow outward, so the load leaves by the route it arrived on. When a trip has left a film that air will not shift, hand-warm water and a little mild detergent will, flushed through until the run-off is clear. Drying then happens in moving air alone: heat is what ruins polyester, so no hot-air gun, no radiator, no flame. It goes back into the box dry and untreated. The cleaning sheet is filed under Downloads.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Ducati DesertX V2 of 2026, in place of the standard paper element. Six machines from Ducati's 890 V2 range share this part number, from enduro to superbike; each is listed with its model years in the Fitment tab.
