What It Is
21000-66 is the 14 mm, 157 mm version — Öhlins lists each size separately. Any mark on the polished section is a reason to replace rather than to reassemble. Shafts are not shortened or extended; the length is the specification. The damper shaft carries the piston and passes through the seal head, so its surface finish decides how long the seals last.
Why the Original
Öhlins is one of the few suspension makers that still supplies every position in the exploded view as a single part. This is an original Öhlins part, not an aftermarket equivalent — the tolerances are the ones the unit was assembled to. Öhlins numbers do not follow a logic you can guess — always read them from the documentation. Ask us before ordering if you are unsure: a wrong part in a pressurised unit is an expensive lesson.
Getting the Number Right
Part number 21000-66 is unambiguous; the description alone is not, because Öhlins uses similar wording across sizes. Check diameter 14 mm, length 157 mm against what you have removed; a close size is not the same part. The polished section runs in the seal; a mark there ends the seal's life. The shaft is threaded at both ends: piston at one, mounting at the other.
Fitting and Setup Service
A damper rebuild is workshop work: it needs the unit dismantled, the shim stack rebuilt in the correct order and the gas charge reset. We are an authorised Öhlins service centre and do exactly that in house — send us the unit or ask us to fit the part with your order.
