DescriptionThe whole story▼

The luggage still fits. On an F 900 XR — a sports tourer bought by people who actually load it — that single line of compatibility matters more than any dyno figure on this page.

Key Features

  • Compatible with the BMW side cases
  • 4.1 kg against the standard 7.22 kg: 3.12 kg and 43.2 per cent less
  • Carbon fibre muffler outer sleeve with a titanium end cap
  • 3.1 Nm more at 3,500 rpm — low in the range where the bike is ridden
  • Thirty minutes to fit
  • No road approval — circuit use only

Three Kilograms From a Silencer

BMW's standard unit weighs 7.22 kg — heavy even by Euro 5 standards, because the F 900's parallel twin routes everything through one large box under the right side. Replacing it with a carbon-sleeved unit takes off more than three kilograms in a single part.

On a machine that is often loaded with panniers and a top case, that is three kilograms of payload handed back.

Both Gains at 3,500 rpm

The power and torque increases both land at 3,500 rpm. That is unusually low, and it says something about what Akrapovic was aiming at: not a peak figure, but the part of the range a 900 cc twin uses when pulling out of a village or holding a gear on a hill.

The numbers themselves are modest. 1.3 PS on 101.5 is not what anyone buys this for.

Why There Is No Approval

This slip-on has no EC or ECE type approval. That is worth stating plainly, because most slip-ons in the BMW range do — and because an F 900 XR is a road-touring machine where the legal position matters.

If you need a road-legal exhaust for this bike, this is not the part.

R or XR — Same Silencer

The F 900 R is a naked roadster and the F 900 XR a half-faired sports tourer, but BMW builds them on one platform with one exhaust route. The part number does not distinguish between them.

The luggage compatibility matters mainly on the XR, which is the version BMW sells with panniers. On an R it is simply one less thing to check.

Seven Model Years

One part number covers 2020 through 2026, across BMW's mid-cycle updates. That is a long run for a modern platform and makes this a safe purchase on a used machine.

A Titanium Cap on a Carbon Sleeve

Akrapovic combines the two materials deliberately: carbon for the sleeve, where weight matters and heat is moderate, titanium for the end cap, where the gas leaves and the temperature is highest. Carbon at the outlet would discolour.

Fitment and Compatibility
