DescriptionThe whole story▼
Plenty of Yamaha R1 owners ride their superbike to work in summer, cruise to a café on Sundays and rarely see a circuit. For them, Accossato offers front pad AGPA97 in the Organic (OR) compound. Accossato lists the pad for the R1 in three periods: 1998 to 2003, the 2006 SP, and 2015 to 2024. The OR mix concentrates on quiet running and on sparing the discs, which suits an R1 that spends its life on public roads rather than at track days.
Key Features
- AGPA97 front pad in Accossato's Organic (OR) compound
- For the Yamaha R1 1998-2003, 2006 (SP) and 2015-2024
- Accossato: longer performance, limited disc wear
- Responsive when brakes are cold
- Quiet on urban roads
- Two pads per box, for one caliper
- Alternatives: ST, EV1, EV2 or ZXC
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato's promise for the Organic compound is straightforward: it lasts, and it is easy on the discs. On a superbike whose discs are costly to replace, that is a practical argument. The company also claims low wear, reduced fade through controlled temperature and good stopping power for its pads in general. We present these as Accossato's statements and have no independent measurements.
An R1 for Everyday Roads
An R1 used for commuting spends much of its time at low speed, with short stops at traffic lights and junctions. The brakes never reach the temperatures of a track session, so a compound that bites well from cold is more useful than a race mix. OR also runs quietly, which is noticeable in town. Riders who want a firmer response for occasional fast laps can look at EV1 instead.
Replacing Pads at Home
Replace both front calipers' pads together, push the pistons back only after cleaning them, and bed the pads in on a quiet road with gradually firmer stops.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists AGPA97 for the YZF 1000 R1 from 1998 to 2003 and from 2015 to 2024, plus the YZF 1000 R1 SP of 2006. The years in between are not in the list, so R1s from 2004, 2005 and 2007 to 2014 are not covered by this entry. The R1 uses two front calipers, so a complete front change needs two boxes. For the rear of 2015 to 2024 models, Accossato lists AGPP39.
Road Approval
We have no ABE or test documentation for AGPA97OR. It is offered for racing and competition use.
Scope of Delivery
Two Organic (OR) AGPA97 pads in one box, sufficient for a single front caliper of the R1.
