Suzuki built this GSX-S 1000 for six model years, and the ones still on the road are no longer new: high mileages, airboxes that have seen every kind of weather, intervals that get stretched. That is the setting in which the racing version of this element earns a look, because the figure that decides anything on a used naked is not the flow of a clean filter but the resistance of a dirty one at the end of an interval. The P08 F1-85 answers that differently from the standard P08 — and the way it answers it is also why it does not suit every owner of this bike.
Key Features
- Racing-grade dry polyester filtering at 85 microns, never oiled and never re-oiled
- Rated at 15,000 litres per square metre per second, the highest flow figure in the range
- Around twice the media area of a typical performance element
- Replaces the paper panel in the series airbox: nothing cut, nothing remapped
- Blown clean with an air line and refitted for as long as the bike is kept
- Two years of Sprint Filter cover from the date of purchase
Resistance at the end of an interval, not the start
A paper element is at its best the day it goes in and worse every mile after. A coarse woven medium loads more slowly, and the reason deserves plain words: an 85-micron weave keeps less of what arrives in its own pores because more of it passes straight through. The reserve is therefore still there in the eleventh month of a service year, not only the first. That is the honest argument on a high-mileage machine — steadiness, not power. No drop-in filter makes a standard GSX-S 1000 noticeably stronger, and this one is no exception.
What the reserve costs, and when it goes unspent
The F1-85 sells for roughly two and a half times the standard P08 in this same fitment, and the difference buys one thing: capacity to pass air. Capacity is spent high in the rev range at full throttle, which on a road-ridden GSX-S 1000 is a few seconds in a ride. Sprint Filter's comparison — 95.22 per cent of 100-micron particles held against 93.13 for the P08 — describes coarse debris and says nothing about the fine fraction that ends up in the oil. Racing accepts that because it counts engine life in hours under load and rebuilds on that clock. Serviced by the odometer instead, this bike pays the higher price for a reserve it never calls on, and the standard P08 is the better-argued part. Open days and an hours-based plan turn the trade the other way.
Care and cleaning
Hold an air line to the clean face of the PM91S F1-85 and blow outwards, so the dirt leaves by the side it came in. Where a season leaves more than air will move, lukewarm water and a mild detergent do the rest: rinse until the water runs clear and dry it in moving air. Never with heat, never near a flame, never refitted damp. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Suzuki GSX-S 1000 of 2016 to 2021, a straight exchange inside the unmodified airbox. Two machines take this racing element, this one and the Katana of 2019 to 2022; the Fitment tab has both.
