Spark is unusually specific about why this case is on this bike: the Konix Evo's extremely racing design and its angular lines blend particularly well with the Z900.

That is a real observation rather than a boast. Kawasaki's naked is built from hard creases and flat planes, and a soft cylindrical silencer sits awkwardly against it. The Konix Evo's edges pick the language up. It is the difference between an exhaust bolted to a motorcycle and one that looks specified for it.

Two Point Six Kilos

The standard Z900 silencer weighs 4.1 kg. Spark's slip-on weighs 1.5 — a little over a third of it.

All of that comes off low and to one side, well behind the centre of mass, which is the least helpful place on a naked bike for weight to sit. A Z900 already steers lightly; taking most of the mass off its tail sharpens the thing it was already good at, and it does so without touching anything else on the motorcycle.

Approved, and Nothing Else to Do

Spark's stated aim for this range was Euro5 approval so the motorcycle can be ridden on all roads in compliance with the regulations, with a darker and more captivating sound — and a performance improvement without any further modification to the bike.

The homologation is issued by the Italian Ministry of Transport. No remap, no error lights, nothing else to buy, and the registration document is unaffected.

Dark or Titanium

Spark offers the Konix Evo for this generation in dark style and in titanium, twelve euros apart. That is close enough that the price should not decide it.

What should is how the silencer ages. A titanium case develops heat colour at its leading end over the first few thousand kilometres — straw, then bronze, then blue. The dark version does not. One records the miles, the other does not change; both are the same silencer underneath.

The Carbon Heat Protection

Spark includes a carbon heat protector with the slip-on rather than listing it as an accessory. On a naked bike that is not styling — the connecting pipe runs past the rider's boot with no bodywork between them.

Because it is made for this motorcycle rather than adapted from a universal part, it sits where the routing puts it. It is also what stops the installation looking like an afterthought on a bike where every part of the exhaust is visible.
