DescriptionThe whole story▼

Öhlins part number 08747-95 is a pair of fork springs rated at 9.5 N/mm, 245 mm long with a 36 mm inner diameter. Under braking a soft spring lets the fork run through its stroke and the geometry with it.

Key Features

  • Inner diameter 36 mm
  • Measured spring rate 9.5 N/mm
  • 140 mm of usable stroke
  • Free length 245 mm
  • Tapered-wound, constant rate
  • Supplied as a pair
  • Öhlins part number 08747-95

How Öhlins Makes Them

Every unit is dyno-tested against the curve held for its part number, not sampled from a batch. The Öhlins part number is stamped on the unit, so its specification can be looked up years later. Service parts stay available for years after a part number leaves the current price list.

Dimensions

The 36 mm bore and 245 mm length are the two figures that decide whether it physically fits; 9.5 N/mm decides whether it suits the rider.

What This Rate Does

This end of the range suits heavier riders, two-up use, or a machine ridden hard enough that fork dive becomes the limit. Heavier riders, two-up use and track days all push the choice towards this end. A firm rate keeps the fork high in its stroke under braking, which preserves the geometry when the front is loaded hard. Ride quality on the road is decided by rate first and damping second.

Applications

Rate is the variable that depends on the rider, not on the machine. Two people on the same bike may well want two different numbers. Ask us with the machine and rider weight and we will tell you which rate in this size to take. A workshop will pick this spring from its dimensions and the rider's weight, not from a fitment table.

What Fitting Involves

Set static sag after fitting; the rate is only right if the sag figure lands where Öhlins specifies. Öhlins states an air gap for this application, and that figure is part of the setting rather than a detail. Work on both legs in one session so the fork stays symmetrical.

Road Approval

Road approval: springs are not separately type-approved in Germany because they substitute a part that is already homologated with the fork. Model-specific documents, where they exist, are named above.

Fitting and Setup Service

Öhlins recommends that its suspension is fitted by an authorised service centre. We are one, and we do the work here: installation, servicing and a proper setup. Ask us and we will include it with the order.
