DescriptionThe whole story▼

KTM's RC 390 of 2014 to 2021 is a faired single for the A2 licence, and it is a common choice for riders who want to try racing. The path usually begins with a licence course, run by a national federation or a club and often held on a circuit over a day or two. Such courses combine theory, practical sessions and an assessment, and for many newcomers they are the first time anyone asks them to prepare a bike properly. Accossato's FC127 is listed for this RC 390: a quick-release tank cap cut from aluminium, with a pawl whose pin you order in one of six colours.

Key Features

  • Quick-release fuel tank cap for the KTM RC 390, 2014 to 2021
  • Listed by Accossato for the RC 390 with ABS
  • Cut entirely from aluminium on CNC machines
  • Quick-closing pawl for short refuelling stops
  • Six pin colours: blue, gold, black, green, silver, red
  • Spare pawl available separately
  • No German ABE documented; intended for the track

Construction and Material Quality

The FC127 is milled from aluminium and nothing else goes into its body; according to Accossato, that is what makes it robust and durable. Its shape is new. On the RC 390, the quick-closing pawl lets you open the tank, pour and shut it again without delay, and the pin on the pawl takes whichever of the six colours you choose. Should that pawl be damaged in a fall or in transport, Accossato offers it as a separate part, and the rest of the cap carries on.

Preparing for a Race Licence Course

A licence course is where many RC 390 owners discover that preparing a bike for competition is different from getting it ready for a ride. The instructors explain flags, start procedures and pit-lane rules, and the practical sessions on track are followed by an assessment. Before any of that, the bike goes through scrutineering, and a newcomer's machine is looked at closely. Bring it clean, with fluids at the right level, nothing loose and the filler area in good order. Read the event notes in advance, as organisers often set out what they expect in the paddock. During the course, refuel only where it is allowed, which at most circuits means the paddock rather than the pit lane, and always with the engine off. When you close the FC127, press on the cap to feel that it has seated and look for a wet edge. Instructors notice riders who handle fuel calmly and tidily, and it is a habit worth taking into a first season of racing.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato's entry for this bike reads RC 390 with ABS, and we list the FC127 for 2014 to 2021. The RC 390 R and the RC 125 are among the other KTMs we list with the same cap. The entry ends with 2021, so if your RC 390 is a later bike, ask us before ordering.

Road Approval

The FC127 carries no German ABE, and no parts certificate is documented, so its place is the circuit. On the road, the RC 390 should wear the cap it came with, normally locked and unlocked with the ignition key.
