DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Superveloce 800 Ago carries the name of Giacomo Agostini, whose world titles on MV Agusta in the 1960s and 1970s made both names famous. In his era, a Grand Prix began with the engines silent: riders pushed their bikes, jumped on and dropped the clutch to bring the engine to life. The Superveloce starts at the press of a button, yet the left hand still decides how smoothly it moves off. Accossato's ESM048 is a CNC-machined clutch lever for the Superveloce 800 Ago of 2021 and 2022, with an adjustable reach.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the MV Agusta Superveloce 800 Ago, 2021 to 2022
- Replaces the original lever at the standard clutch mounting
- Reach to the grip adjustable
- Standard blade approx. 138 mm in all seven colours
- Short blade in blue, gold, green, orange and silver; long blade in blue, gold, green and orange
- CNC-milled aluminium, anodised, black hub
- Fixed blade, no folding joint
Construction and Material Quality
Nothing about the ESM048 is retro except the company it keeps. The lever is milled from solid aluminium on CNC machines and anodised in two tones, a black hub and a coloured blade. The hub holds the pivot and the reach adjuster; the blade is one rigid piece, as this is a fixed lever without a folding joint. Machining from the solid means every lever comes out with the same shape and the same fit, which is what you want from a part your fingers operate each time you pull away or come to a stop.
When Races Began With a Push
A push start was a lesson in clutch control. The rider ran beside the bike in gear with the lever pulled in, jumped aboard and released the clutch at the right moment, firmly enough to turn the engine over but not so abruptly that the rear wheel locked. Get it wrong, and the rest of the field was gone. The Superveloce spares you the running, but the principle of a well-timed release still applies every time you move off: the clutch has to take up the drive progressively, without a jolt, and that is easier when the lever sits exactly where your fingers expect it. Accossato itself was founded in 1969 in Moncalieri near Turin as a maker of competition motorcycles, at a time when push starts were standard practice on the circuits. On the Superveloce Ago, the long blade makes each release lighter if much of your riding happens in town, while the short one suits riders who keep two fingers on the lever and the others on the grip.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the ESM048 for the Superveloce 800 Ago in 2021 and 2022. The lever mounts at the bike's original clutch mounting and replaces the standard part. For the front brake of the Ago, our range has no matching Accossato lever, so this product is for the clutch side only.
Road Approval
The ESM048 has no documented German ABE, and we sell it for use on the track.
