DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Rebel 500 is usually described as a bike for shorter riders, thanks to its low seat. Plenty of tall riders buy one anyway, drawn by the bobber styling and the easy-going twin, and they sit on it differently: knees higher, elbows more bent, hands arriving at the grips from above. Accossato's ESH250, a CNC-machined aluminium clutch lever for the Rebel 500 of 2017 to 2021, has an adjustable reach and three blade lengths, so the left hand can be set up for a taller frame as well.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the Honda Rebel 500 (CMX500), 2017 to 2021
- Replaces the lever at the original clutch mounting
- Distance to the grip adjustable
- Long blade for long fingers in blue, gold, green and orange
- Standard blade approximately 138 mm in all seven colours
- Solid aluminium, CNC-machined and anodised
- Black hub, fixed blade, no hinge
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato produces the ESH250 by machining a solid aluminium blank on CNC equipment and anodising the result. The lever comes in two tones. Its black hub carries the pivot and the reach adjuster and sits quietly next to the dark switchgear, while the blade takes the colour you select. Nothing on it folds or hinges: the blade is a single rigid piece, so the point where the clutch begins to bite stays exactly where you learned to find it.
A Tall Rider on a Low Bike
On a compact cruiser, a tall rider's wrists often end up bent downwards, because the forearms slope steeply from high elbows to the grips. If the clutch lever stays at the angle chosen for a shorter rider, the fingers meet it awkwardly and the wrist bends a little further at every pull. Start with the angle: where the clutch assembly can be turned on the bar, rotate it slightly downwards until the lever lines up with your forearm in your normal riding position, and tighten it again as your manual describes. Then set the reach. Large hands usually want the blade further out, so the fingers can wrap around it without the knuckles meeting the grip at full pull. Choose the length last. The long blade gives long fingers room and extra leverage, and the standard blade stays closest to the original. Before riding the Rebel 500 again, pull the lever fully a few times with the engine running, the front brake held and first gear selected, and make sure the clutch still frees completely.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the ESH250 for the Rebel 500, which it calls CMX 500, for the model years 2017 to 2021. It takes the place of the original lever at the stock clutch mounting. Accossato's list shows no brake lever for this bike, so the clutch lever is offered on its own. Rebel 500 bikes from other model years are not part of this listing.
Road Approval
The ESH250 has no documented German ABE and is sold for use on the track.
